The 5 Best Spinach Dips Are Bread Bowl Ready

Spinach dip is a top five appetizer. You might think, “What’s the point of even eating spinach if it’s loaded up with calories?” The point is flavor.

Sure, it’s not very healthy, and it’s definitely not a “vegetable-forward” type of food, but a good, flavorful spinach dip belongs in the hall of fame of chain restaurant appetizers. The slightly bitter and subtly sweet cruciferous vegetable cuts through our favorite fatty condiments and gives us creamy, leafy, tangy bliss. For that, we are eternally grateful.

We invited Mythical production assistant and our new spinach dip correspondent Karolyna Garza in for this Sporked taste test. So what do we want in a good spinach dip? Well, artichokes aren’t totally necessary, but they do help bring some added flavor and tang. So, if there’s some good artichoke in there, we welcome it and it ramps up the score. The dip itself should be creamy and chunky; anything too thin didn’t rank in our top five. We found a lot of watery dips (my guess is they use frozen spinach, which is fine but packs a ton of liquid unless it’s properly drained). We want flavor, lots of vegetables, and a good creamy, chunky quality. Seasoning, seasoning, more seasoning. I’ll preach it all damn day. That’s what we want out of our spin dip.

So stock up on some Triscuits or some soft, crusty bread, and peep this list.

marketside spinach & artichoke dip

Best of the Best

Marketside Spinach & Artichoke Dip

Marketside spinach dip is made with cream cheese, so it has that uber-creamy, buffalo cheese dip feel to it. You can also see whole chunks of artichokes in here, which add some extra earthy tang, and really bring the whole thing together. Cream cheese is decadent, so the added flavor from the spinach and artichokes is welcomed. Marketside is also made with three cheeses: Mozzarella, parmesan, and asiago. This is just a creamy, cheesy, well-seasoned, vegetable-packed dip. Spread it on a sandwich, put it on a bread bowl, eat spoonfuls of it straight, etc. The world is yours.

La Terra Fina Spinach Artichoke & Parmesan Dip & Spread

“The spinach flavor here is 10/10,” said Karolyna, “This reminds me of my Aunt’s spinach dip.” Karolyna has been spot-on with her tasting notes all day and has a real eye for this appetizer. The spinach flavor here is so nice. It’s cruciferous, tart, salty, and a little bit sweet. It kind of feels like fresh spinach, to be honest, and not the overcooked frozen stuff. “This tastes exactly like spinach dip you’d go out of your way to make,” remarked managing editor Gwynedd Stuart. That’s the highest compliment you can pay a container of spinach dip.

first street spinach dip

Best for a Bread Bowl

First Street Spinach Dip

“This gives me bread bowl vibes,” said Karolyna. Everybody went nuts for the flavor of First Street. It’s probably because they include dill, garlic powder, onion powder, sour cream, and celery salt in their dip. These are all things I include in ranch, so this gave me really big ranch vibes. It feels like vegetable dip with the vegetables already in it. It’s not quite as chunky as Marketside or La Terra Fina, but the flavor here is undeniable. Just prepare yourself for something herbaceous and tangy.

Good Foods Spinach Artichoke Parmesan Dairy Dip

This is another spinach, artichoke, and parmesan cheese dip, but it This is another spinach, artichoke, and parmesan cheese dip, but it tastes a bit cheesier than La Terra Fina. Good Foods uses some spicy, savory Monterey Jack cheese in addition to salty and nutty parmesan, so the cheese flavor has a lot of depth. They also use a mixture of sour cream and cream cheese, giving this dip some more decadent and tangy characteristics. Good Foods is a great balance of texture and flavor, plus the cheese flavor comes through really strong. Great dip. Eat it with some sturdy Triscuits to carry all that thick cheese right to your mouth.

Rabbit Hole Foods Creamy Plant-Based Spinachoke Dip

This is the dip I took home with me. I’m enamored with the fact that it’s loaded with tangy, citrusy artichokes. The spinach is definitely there, but the artichoke is what shines brightest. The tang is incredible; there’s a lot of lemon juice, vinegar, pepper, salt, and leeks to make this taste fragrant and bright. The creamy dip part is made from vegan mayonnaise, so it’s missing that eggy, cheesy vibe that most spinach dip lovers crave. But this is still very thick and flavorful. This is “vegan food can be great” exhibit A for me. Way to go, Rabbit Hole.
