Any day that a new boxed mac and cheese flavor lands on shelves is a good day for us. What can we say? We love mac and cheese, and in our book, the more options, the better (even if the original is hard to beat). Luckily, the last month or so has been very good to us all in terms of new products rearing their heads. We’ve already discussed Annie’s new mac and cheese flavors, and now, Walmart has four new ones for everyone to try.

And if you were just expecting these to be more of the same, you’d be mistaken. These new flavors are pretty fun (although whether they’ll be successful remains to be seen). Here’s what you need to know.

New Bettergoods Mac And Cheese Flavors: Curry, Anyone?

Walmart’s new Bettergoods mac and cheese varieties have come courtesy of @candyhunting, who dropped the news of their existence on Facebook. Flavor-wise, we’ve got…

  • Restaurant-Style Chicken Tikka Masala Macaroni and Cheese: A boxed mac that Walmart says is “inspired by” chicken tikka masala, and which doesn’t contain any chicken. Instead, it’s elbow pasta with a curry-infused sauce. Will this one hit, or will it be a complete dud? We have yet to find out.
  • Plant-Based Tomato Curry Macaroni and Cheeze: The second of Walmart’s curry-inspired mac and cheese flavors – and we invite you to clock the “z” in the product name, as this one has no real cheese in it at all. Instead, it’s made with a dairy-free cheeze sauce.
  • Burnt Ends BBQ Flavored Macaroni and Cheese: An interesting move here, with a mac and cheese that aims to combine the best of both worlds: Pasta and BBQ. This one may not be the hit that Walmart hopes…but more on that in a moment.
  • Philly Cheesesteak Flavored Macaroni and Cheese: As with the Chicken Tikka Masala flavor, this one’s distinctly lacking in any actual cheesesteak. But Walmart’s going for the flavor here, guys.

The Verdict Is Still (Mostly) Out

As these are brand-new items that haven’t made much of a splash yet, we don’t have a lot of response to them just yet. However, reviews for the Burnt Ends flavor have started to trickle in, and so far…they’re not great. There’s one sole one-star review for it on the Walmart website, with the customer who tried it stating: “This is gross, tastes like straight up like BBQ potato chip flavoring. Two bites and I threw it out.”

We’re willing to bet that wasn’t the reaction that Walmart wanted here, but we digress. These boxed macs are out now, and you can come to your own conclusions if flavored mac and cheese is your thing.
