There was a time when Pop Rocks were only meant for candy lovers. Now, someone has looked at those tiny popping crystals and thought, “What if they tasted like ranch?” As strange as that sounds, that’s exactly what Buffalo Wild Wings has done.

The wing chain is introducing Poppin’ Ranch, a limited-time topping that delivers the familiar crackling sensation of popping candy. It’s one of those menu items that sounds like a joke at first, but Buffalo Wild Wings is betting customers will be curious enough to give it a shot.

Ranch Gets The Pop Rocks Treatment

Starting July 20th, participating Buffalo Wild Wings restaurants and Buffalo Wild Wings GO locations across the U.S. will sell packets of Poppin’ Ranch for 99 cents for a limited time.

Instead of pouring ranch dressing over wings, customers can sprinkle tiny ranch-flavored popping crystals directly onto their food. The candy can also be mixed into a cup of ranch dressing or added to fries, chicken tenders, burgers, and other menu items. It’s the first savory popping candy made just for a restaurant menu.

It Smells Like Ranch, But Pops Like Candy

First off, you can eat the Poppin’ Ranch as a candy if you love Pop Rocks. Early test tasters who got their hands on it before the official launch say it pretty much looks and smells exactly like a Hidden Valley Ranch packet. The popping candy delivers a familiar ranch flavor with a slight sweetness, thanks to the sugar needed to create the popping effect. Once sprinkled onto wings or fries, the ranch flavor becomes milder but the crackling sensation remains the star of the show.

Poppin’ Ranch isn’t exactly meant to replace Buffalo Wild Wings’ regular ranch dressing. Instead, it’s best used alongside a traditional cup of ranch for those who want both the creamy dip and the fizzy crunch.

Buffalo Wild Wings Keeps Leaning Into Wild Ideas

Buffalo Wild Wings has never been shy about experimenting with bold flavors. Its menu already includes more than 20 wing sauces and several dry rubs, ranging from mild classics to fiery options like Blazin’ Knockout. Adding a popping candy topping feels like the next step in that strategy.

Instead of creating another spicy option, it decided to play with texture this time. I think the crackling effect of the Poppin’ Ranch could turn an ordinary basket of wings into something customers will probably film before they even take the first bite.

Will Fans Actually Love It?

That may depend on how adventurous customers are. Some people put ranch on everything, while others don’t let it anywhere near their wings. Poppin’ Ranch probably won’t end that debate, but those that love Pop Rocks will probably be the first to give it a try.

For just 99 cents, it’s an easy gamble for anyone curious enough to see what popping ranch actually feels and tastes like. Even if it turns out to be one of the weirdest things Buffalo Wild Wings has ever served, that’s part of the fun.
