A few years ago, the ginger ale and seltzer brand rolled out a Ginger Ale & Raspberry Lemonade—it had fans, of course, but not at the Sporked offices. We have it at the bottom of our Canada Dry flavors ranking. It was medicinal and too light on the ginger ale part of the equation. Well, Canada Dry is giving the combo of raspberry, lemonade, and ginger ale another shot with a rumored all new Canada Dry flavor.
What’s the new Canada Dry flavor, exactly?
As Canadian Candy Hunters shared on social media, Canada Dry is releasing a Zero Sugar Raspberry Lemonade Ginger Ale in Canada. It’s been a long time coming, as those who loved the original Ginger Ale & Raspberry Lemonade had been requesting a sugar-free option on Reddit.
Along with the Zero Sugar Raspberry Lemonade Ginger Ale, there will also be another sugar-free flavor: Zero Sugar Strawberry Lemonade Ginger Ale, as reported by Junk Food Junction, which is also getting a Canadian release. This news comes weeks after the announcement of the brand’s Peach Mango Ginger Ale, which too is sadly only available in Canada.
Should we Americans be jelaous? Will these new Canada Dry flavors be any good?
As a lifelong Canada Dry loyalist, I’ve recently switched to their Zero Sugar Ginger Ale and love it. Ginger ale isn’t that sugary to start with, so the sugar-free version doesn’t make you miss the extra sweetness much.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Zero Sugar Strawberry Lemonade Ginger Ale tastes similarly to the Zero Sugar Strawberry from the Fruit Splash line. That flavor is fairly new, too, as it debuted last year as part of a summer variety pack, but was released this February in single bottles and 12-can packs.
But Canada Dry’s lemonade-based beverages have been a mixed bag. While we didn’t love the Raspberry Lemonade, with absolutely adored the Lemonade Ginger Ale—in fact it’s at the top of our ranking of the brand’s products. While it tastes more like lemonade than ginger ale, the flavor has a balanced tart-sweet profile that makes it craveable. Perhaps the fact that these new Canada Dry flavors (sorry, Canadians, flavours) are phrased as Raspberry Lemonade Ginger Ale and Strawberry Lemonade Ginger Ale, rather than Ginger Ale and Raspberry Lemonade, means that these will lean more heavily on the ginger ale and win us over.
