Here’s a sentence that probably shouldn’t qualify as news in 2026: Carl’s Jr. would like you to know they will start cooking your burger after you order it.

After. As in, the beef won’t have been sitting under a heat lamp reconsidering its choices before you walked in.

Starting today, the chain is rolling out what it’s calling the Burger Revolution―a systemwide switch to cooked-to-order patties. Your burger now hits the char broiler after you’ve asked for one, rather than waiting around in “traditional holding systems.” Which is a wonderfully diplomatic way of describing a burger that’s been kept warm for a length of time nobody wants to specify.

A Revolution With A Fairly Low Bar

Let’s be clear about the size of this leap. Fast food has spent decades convincing us that a lukewarm, slightly deflated burger is simply the cost of speed. Carl’s Jr. has decided to argue otherwise.

Holding burgers for later is part of the reason a drive-thru burger can sometimes arrive with the structural integrity of a damp paper towel. Cooking to order means a hotter patty, a fresher build, and less time sitting around waiting for you to show up.

The brand promises burgers that are “more consistently craveable,” but strip away the marketing and the actual change is pretty simple: fewer burgers cooked in advance and left to wait.

Meet The Angus Maximus

Every revolution needs a flag to wave, and this one waves the Angus Maximus―the first limited-time offering to launch under the new cooked-to-order standard.

The new burger consists of two charbroiled 100% Angus beef patties seasoned with the chain’s signature blend, melted American cheese, sliced onions, dill pickles, and special sauce, all stacked on a buttery toasted brioche bun.

It has 5.7 ounces of beef and costs $5.99 at participating locations.

How To Try One Without Paying For It

If you’d rather test the “we cook it when you order it” promise on someone else’s dime, there’s a route.

New My Rewards members can also get a free Angus Maximus with any purchase when they sign up. So if you were already curious about the new burger, Carl’s Jr. has made the decision pretty easy.

The burger is available through Oct. 27th, giving Carl’s Jr. about seven weeks to find out whether freshly cooked beef is the hook that turns curious first-timers into repeat customers or whether people mostly just want the free burger.

Is A Hotter Burger Enough?

Brand president Iwona Alter says the chain has never been in the business of serving burgers that are “just good enough”―a bold claim, given how many of us have eaten a sad late-night fast-food burger and made peace with it.

Still, credit where it’s due. Cooking a burger to order is the kind of thing you’d assume was already happening, right up until you learn it wasn’t.

Carl’s Jr. is clearing a bar it arguably set for itself, and clearing it fresh off the char broiler.

Revolution might be a strong word. Improvement, though? That one fits.
