I’ll be honest: I forgot Cheez-It made flavors beyond “we turned a different kind of cheese into a square.” Forgive me! I’ve been utterly blinded by my new all-time favorite Cheez-It: the groundbreaking Smoked Gouda. I didn’t have “charcuterie board worthy” on my list of qualities to expect from the Cheez-It laboratory, but they really delivered.

But we’re not talking about that Cheez-It flavor today.

Today, I’ve got my hands on the newest innovation in square orange crackers: Cheesy Taco Cheez-Its. Let’s find out whether these cheese crackers have the it factor.

Cheez-It Cheesy Taco

New Cheez-It Flavor!

Cheez-It Cheesy Taco

Pros: This new Cheez-It flavor tastes exactly how I expected! Points for accuracy. People in my life who will remain nameless said they would absolutely smash this entire box in one sitting if they were high. (This is not particularly high praise.)

Cons: This new Cheez-It flavor does not taste good! Negative points for making me cough when I opened the box and got hit with a wave of taco seasoning right up the nose. There’s something about adding certain kinds of seasonings to a Cheez-It that makes them taste like a store-brand fake Cheez-It. If the idea of “taco-flavored Cheez-Its” sounds really appealing to you, these are probably exactly what you want. For me, these are just “white people taco night” in cracker form.

Where can I find this new Cheez-It flavor for myself?

I found Cheez-It Cheesy Taco crackers at Walmart, but as far as I can tell, these aren’t exclusive to the blue behemoth. While you’re there, pick up a box of the Smoked Gouda Cheez-Its if you haven’t already tried them. I promise you, they’re game-changing.

What’s next for Cheez-It?

Cheez-It has been busy, y’all. As far as we can tell, the next Cheez-It innovation we can expect in stores is a line of frozen pizzas. And sometime later this year, we can expect a fast food burger-flavored cracker in collaboration with a certain spicy red-head who loves squaring off. Beyond those plans, Cheez-It is also testing a few ideas according to a survey that went around recently—namely in the fields of protein, sandwich crackers, and “XTRA BOLD” flavors.

  • cheesy taco is not a new flavor. It’s a flavor from the 90s that I’ve desperately missed. They used to be triangle shaped and said Fiesta Cheesy Nacho and Fiesta Cheesy Taco. One bite took me back, so nostalgic. So happy to see these.

    • Thank you!!! Same here 10/10 best cheez-it flavor next to the extra-cheesy ones for me. These remind me of that cool taco dip with sour cream mixed with a taco seasoning packet, topped with fresh diced tomato, green chiles, and cheddar cheese.
