Coca-Cola Cherry Float is the newest less-than-limited-edition flavor variant from the world’s biggest drink brand. Coke was nice enough to send over sample cans of all three Coca-Cola variants hitting shelves this year as part of their “Year of Cherry.” Stay tuned to Sporked for my reviews of Diet Coke Cherry and the zero sugar variant of today’s review topic; for now, let’s find out whether Cherry Float Coke will have us floating.

What makes this “less-than-limited-edition”?

Coke Cherry Float is the second annual “year-long LTO” from Coca-Cola. Last year’s Coca-Cola Orange Cream was on shelves for a full year before being discontinued last month to make room for this variant. What fruity-creamy Coke variant do you want to see hit shelves in 2027? Let me know in the comments.

New Cherry Float Coke!

Pros: Cherry Coke is one of the best colas ever made. As such, any variant of that variant is likely to also kick ass. Coca-Cola Cherry Float is certainly a sweeter, creamier take on the tried-and-true Cherry Coke formula. Like last year’s Orange Cream, there’s an impressive cream factor here; I’m still not sure how they deliver that in the cola format, but it’s just as accurate the second time around. If you’ve ever enjoyed any kind of Coca-Cola float, you’ll enjoy this.

Cons: Here’s my issue, folks: Coca-Cola Cherry Float is a great soda… but it’s too similar to regular Cherry Coke. Unlike last year’s Coca-Cola Orange Cream, the base fruit-flavor combination here is already widely available–and we’ve been drinking it for 40 years now. While the creaminess is a positive addition, I’m docking points for the lack of creativity. The same cola laboratory that brought us “Raspberry S’mores!?” should not be plateauing with “fruit flavor we already sell, plus melted whipped cream“.

And we’re a long way away from this, but I have a feeling the word “float” will eventually be associated strongly with THC-infused drinks. My descendants in the soda journalism space may look back on the name of this drink with bemusement as they prepare to review a very different “Coca-Cola Float.”
