There are few things in this life that I like more than a gyro. When I went to Greece for three weeks on my own a couple of years back, I ate one nearly every day of the trip – with a couple of rest stops here and there to reset my palate – and honestly, I don’t regret a thing. Fluffy pita, spiced & herbed meat, creamy tzatziki sauce, and maybe a couple of fries thrown in…let me book some one-way flights instantly, I’m ready to go again.

So, it is with a sigh of envy that I deliver the news that Costco has brought back its gyro kit, which can now be found in its prepared section. I say it with envy because I’m in the UK, where it’s currently not available. But American Costco customers are rejoicing – and rightly so.
Costco’s Gyro Kit: Grab It Before Someone Else Does
Word recently reached our ears that Costco’s gyro kit is back in stock, after a fairly lengthy absence from its prepared foods section. Instagram account @costcohotfinds, which tracks all the latest releases at the store, revealed that it was in town once more, before breaking down the contents. In each pack, you’ve got a pile of gyro meat, a stack of six pitas, two tubs of tzatziki sauce, a cup of feta, and fresh vegetables. You’ll have to add the fries yourself, but head over to its frozen section while you’re there, grab a bag of potatoes, and you’re good to go.
It’s worth saying that this gyro kit isn’t the cheapest out there, but given that it’s designed to feed six people, you probably wouldn’t expect it to be. It’s priced at around $20 to $23 per pack (or $6.99 per pound), but that’s still not a bad deal, considering that a freshly-made gyro can be fairly expensive in some places.
Good News for Gyro Lovers
The return of Costco’s gyro kit will no doubt be music to the ears of fans of this prepared meal – of which there are many. When it first dropped a few years back, the kit garnered a lot of praise from corners of the internet, with some people saying that it was head and shoulders above other foods available there. “It’s my favorite of their prepared meals. Heat up the griddle and throw the meat and pita on for a few minutes and you’re good to go,” said one comment on Reddit, which received more than 600 upvotes. That’s a lot of approval.
Others, meanwhile, questioned how authentic the gyros from this kit really were – and granted, they’re probably not as good as those made right there and then. But hey, if you’re looking for a speedy meal that will doubtless please most people out there, then this is a fairly safe bet.
