Think you’ve tried everything Chick-fil-A has to offer? Even if you’re always getting your hands on the latest menu additions (like brand-new sauces and sandwiches), odds are there are a few meals you’ve never tasted.

That’s because Chick-fil-A has a surprising number of restaurants — and no, we’re not talking about the staple Chick-fil-A locations in your hometown. The chain actually includes multiple spins on Chick-fil-A, or variations on the original that offer slightly different menus and cater to different tastes. And one such restaurant is a classic diner.

Yep, you can visit a Chick-fil-A that’s modeled after diners from the 1950s. But you might not recognize it as part of the Chick-fil-A family at first, since it goes by a different name: Truett’s Grill.

What Is Truett’s Grill?

Truett’s Grill is, according to the official Chick-fil-A website, “a blast from the past.” It first opened in Morrow, Georgia back in 1996 in honor of Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy’s 50th anniversary of working in the restaurant business.

When you stop by Truett’s Grill, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported back into the ‘50s. Designed to capture the look and feel of a traditional diner, the restaurant offers a sit-down dining room, a counter, and a drive-thru. So it’s no mere fast food restaurant like your average Chick-fil-A; rather, it’s a true diner that offers three different ways to eat a meal.

Inside, you’ll feel the presence of the past even more: The interior is decked out with antiques from Cathy’s very own personal collection. Motorcycles, model trains, and even photos of Cathy and his personal cars all lend an authentic diner feel.

Today, there are three Truett’s Grill locations. The original in Morrow is still operating, and two more have opened over the last 30 years in Griffin and McDonough (meaning all three are in Georgia).

Chick-fil-A, But With a Southern Touch

What’s unique about Truett’s Grill is that this diner has a clear connection to Chick-fil-A. It wasn’t merely inspired by the founder. Truett’s Grill is actually a spin off of Chick-fil-A — and the restaurant serves the full Chick-fil-A menu.

But you won’t just find nuggets, waffle fries, and the Original Chicken Sandwich on the menu. New items like the chicken and waffle sandwiches make their way to Truett’s Grill, too, along with some surprises.

In addition to Chick-fil-A staples and fan-favorite items, you’ll find some Southern dishes available to order at Truett’s Grill. It’s like Chick-fil-A with a fancier presentation, plus comfort food familiar to residents of the South like the Hot Brown (a gravy and cheese-topped open-face sandwich) and Sweet Potato Souffle. Everything includes familiar Chick-fil-A ingredients, though, so don’t be surprised if you see some nuggets hiding in your Hot Brown.

Wondering what the experience is like? Well, according to those who’ve visited, it’s like fast food with better presentation. One Reddit user summed it up as “You get real plates and glasses and lovely Southern foods. And a server!”

And yes, “It’s the same Chick-fil-A chicken,” according to diners. But frankly, if you’re already a huge Chick-fil-A fan like I am, this is the kind of restaurant you’d absolutely love.
