My best friend, Fly By Jing, just sent me two new instant noodles to try because they know I’ve been feeling a little down lately. Some people would call this exchange PR. Not me. We have a deep, meaningful relationship built on mutual respect and support, okay? Anyways, they’ve got two new flavors now available online and at Whole Foods: Roasted Garlic Noodles and Creamy Sesame Noodles. I tried both of them.

Now, despite the fact that Fly By Jing, as I’ve stated, is my bestie who can do no wrong, I will keep my review open and honest. I cannot be bought. At least not with instant noodles. My venmo is @ariana—

Ha. You wish, you freaks. Onto the review!

Fly By Jing Roasted Garlic Noodles

Fly By Jing Roasted Garlic Noodles

Pros: Oh holy garlic, this stuff is potent. The roasted garlic aroma from one package of cooked noodles drew my roommate away from her video game (impossible) to ask what I was making. Imagine the bounciest knife-cut noodles absolutely slathered in an oily garlic sauce, and this is what you’ve got. I chopped and seared a lot of cabbage to go on top, since it really reminded me of the roasted garlic sauce that comes with the cabbage at Din Tai Fung. The cabbage really made it for me, to be honest.

Cons: Look, the flavor is not that exciting to me personally. It’s pretty one note and it’s a little on the oily side. I added soy sauce, scallions, and a whole lot of cabbage to keep it interesting. But garlic lovers are going to absolutely freak out for this, I’m sure.

Verdict: Fly By Jing advertises this as “made for all ages,” so I can understand the more basic flavor profile intended here. As a base for other ingredients, I think these are really nice and obviously high quality.

Fly By Jing Creamy Sesame Noodles

New Fly By Jing Noodles!

Fly By Jing Creamy Sesame Noodles

Pros: This is what I’m talking about, people. These creamy sesame noodles are somehow deeply comforting, unique, and zingy all in one. They have a robust, nutty, creamy sesame sauce made from sesame paste and a touch of numbing Sichuan that builds over time. And I just love opening up a noodle package to find three separate packets inside: a sesame sauce packet, a seasoned soy sauce packet, and a packet of dried chives and toasted black sesame seeds. That electric Sichuan heat is really mild, but it still wakes everything up.

Cons: I would never criticize my best friend. She’s perfect. No, seriously. I don’t have any critiques here.

Verdict: YUM. This is an easy repurchase for me. I’m not sure I’ve had instant noodles like it before, to be honest. Love you, bestie. (Send more noods immediately.)
