From Starbucks coffee to frozen Eggo waffles, protein is the name of the game these days. GHOST is no stranger to the world of getting swole. While we all think of GHOST for their energy drinks, the brand got their start offering supplements like pre-workout and hydration powders. The energy drink portion of the company eventually took off like a rocket, but the health-focused side has continued releasing new products the whole time—frequently serving as a sort of test market for collaborative flavors that later become energy drinks like Welch’s Grape-Cran.

Recently, GHOST’s CEO and CMO revealed a brand-new collaboration with a cult classic: Yoo-hoo Chocolate Drink. Luckily for us, this collaboration isn’t debuting as an energy drink; GHOST is partnering with Yoo-hoo for their first-ever canned protein drink… eventually. GHOST made the rare move to announce this product sans release date; read on for my theory on why the brand broke from their standard reveal process for this particular product.
Didn’t GHOST already try making protein drinks?
Back in 2021, GHOST debuted Cereal Milk and Chips Ahoy-flavored protein shakes with 25 grams of protein per 12oz bottle. The line was quietly discontinued for unknown reasons, but the brand must have gone back to the lab. We already know from the reveal post that GHOST’s new Yoo-hoo protein drink contains 25 grams of protein per 11oz can, so at minimum, there’s slightly more protein per ounce in this new formula.
Why did GHOST announce this with no release plans?
While I don’t know this for sure, I expect the brand will be offering samples of this new Yoo-hoo drink to select partners at an event in the very near future. GHOST does tons of promotional work inside the Stack3d Pavilion at the Arnold Sports Festival held in early March (practically down the street from me in Columbus, Ohio). GHOST’s athletes have a habit of accidentally revealing new products once they have samples in-hand, so the brand may have decided to capitalize on an early official reveal rather than having to manage a leak.
At last year’s Arnold Sports Festival, GHOST had a very limited supply of their then-upcoming Peaches energy drink available for VIPs to take home. Rest assured, I’ll be doing whatever I can to secure an early can of GHOST’s Yoo-hoo Chocolate High Protein Milk Drink next week to review right here on Sporked.
