If there’s one thing to know about Gordon Ramsay, it’s that he likes it when things are done right. He likes it when restaurants are run correctly, if his tendency to scream at business owners when they don’t quite nail this is anything to go by. He likes it when fast food is classic and delicious (even if he does order off-menu). And he likes it when people just stick to the basics. This isn’t a chef that spends his time emulating the latest viral trends on TikTok, people, no matter how prolific his social media presence is.

If you needed any further proof of this, Gordon Ramsay recently laid out his fatigue with trend-based cooking in an interview with Tasting Table. In the wide-ranging conversation, he touched on foams, Mounjaro, and influencers. Here’s what he had to say.

Smashed Avocado? No Thanks

In the Tasting Table interview, Ramsay laid siege to his most-hated food trends. Turns out, he really hates smashed avocado. “If I hear one more chef tell me about smashed avocado, I’m going to scream,” the famously grumpy chef said. “Do you have any idea how many ways you can make a delicious avocado?” Ramsay went on to discuss a chilled avocado soup he enjoyed in Oaxaca, which, by the sounds of it, was a way more respectful way of treating the fruit than smashing it to pieces. Look, we get it, Gordon, but not all of us can get to Mexico for a bowl of broth. Also, avocado toast loaded with toppings is delicious. So, yeah.

He also discussed his dislike of foams (not cold foam creamers, but the kind that finish off a fussy plate of food with an even fussier garnish. “Foams are for shaving, right? Foams have a 30-second window. After that, on the plate, they look like your cat’s puked up on it,” he stated. We have to say, we do agree with him on that one.

One final trend that Ramsay went in on was the increasing tendency of restaurants to make smaller portions for people on GLP-1 medication – also known as Mounjaro menu. “I’ve never heard anything so embarrassing in all my f***ing life that chefs are now getting organized with smaller tasting menus to support the weight loss jab. I’ve never heard anything so stupid in all my life.” Tell us how you really feel, Gordon!

We Live in an Influencer Economy, and Even Gordon Ramsay Knows It

With all of this resistance towards jumping on the trend wagon, you’d think that Ramsay would hold a little piece of hatred in his heart for people who spread them – i.e., TikTok stars. But interestingly, he sees the importance of influencers to the modern food industry. “There’s 50% of the industry that can’t stand them … And then there’s the other side … it goes viral, [and] your dining room is full for the next six months,” he said in the interview.

As a result, Ramsay now urges restaurateurs not to be too snobby about the presence of camera-wielding social media stars in their eateries – even if they’re asking for a plate of smashed avocado.
