A few weeks ago, Graeter’s ice cream brought back a fan-favorite flavor for a good cause. “Elena’s Blueberry Pie” was created in honor of Elena Desserich, a six-year old girl from Cincinnati who battled DIPG. Graeter’s donates money from every sale of this flavor to The Cure Starts Now, a grassroots organization dedicated to fighting all cancers. Graeter’s sent over a pint of this collaborative flavor so I could help get the word out. You’re telling me I can eat ice cream and get warm fuzzies for supporting an important cause? Well, if you insist.
- Elena’s Blueberry Pie Graeter’s Ice Cream Review
-
Pros: Much like the best Graeter’s ice cream flavor, this ice cream contains actual pie crust pieces and real blueberries. I will no longer accept any pie-flavored ice cream without pieces of pie crust—this is groundbreaking stuff. Graeter’s French Pot method results in such a dense, buttery ice cream that it’s hard not to fall in love with any flavor, let alone this one. This pint will not last long in my house; I’ll probably end up at my local Graeter’s shop for more before they put the flavor back in the vault for another 11 months.
Cons: I understand that this has to be a limited-time flavor for promotional purposes to better draw attention to the cause, but it’s so damn good. Sell it to me year-round. Validate me buying ice cream by attaching good feelings to it 365 days a year please.

Where can I pick up Elena’s Blueberry Pie Ice Cream for myself?
As mentioned in our Graeter’s flavor ranking, the brand is slowly expanding outside of the Midwestern home territory. If you aren’t lucky enough to see this flavor near you on their store locator, you can still order it online while supplies last. Graeter’s is even offering a “Warrior Pack” made up of Elena’s Blueberry Pie plus five flavors hand-picked by pediatric DIPG patients. (Most of those five made it into the highest tier of our Graeter’s ranking—not a bad starter pack at all.)
