Costco sells a lot of meat. Sadly, not all of it is good. In fact, a lot of it isn’t good. Costco’s chicken, pork, and beef options are some of the chain’s most-returned items, due to their varying quality and unfortunate tendency to be totally inedible. That’s not true of every single meat item in its stores, but you’d be surprised how often it doesn’t hit the mark.

You know one Costco meat product that does seem to nail it, though? Its goat meat. Costco is currently selling bumper boxes of Thomas Farms Halal Bone-In Goat Cubes, giving customers the opportunity to take home 15 pounds of prepared protein – and the results are in. People are big fans. Well, of most of it, anyway.

Had Enough of Costco Beef? Try Goat

Thomas Farms Halal Bone-In Goat Cubes returned to Costco pretty recently, but it’s popped up in various stores over the last year or so, and is one of several halal products available at the store. So far, the coat cubes have won a lot of praise from customers. “Cooks excellent in stews/curries. Meat gets tender, connective tissue softens up nicely, no gamey or off flavor,” said a reviewer on Reddit, before adding, “As an Indian-American, I grew up eating curries with goat meat that was typically bought pretty fresh from a local shop. Now I live very far from halal stores, but 30 mins to a Costco Business Center.” With the size of this product, it’s great for stocking up if your local Costco is a bit of a drive away.

That said, since these goat cubes first appeared in Costco stores, they’ve shot up in price – and not everyone’s happy. One Redditor pointed out that the box of goat meat costs $81.99 in their local store, which they dubbed “honestly ridiculous,” considering that it was $59.99 just a few months ago. Yeah…they’re not wrong.

With Goat Meat, the Possibilities Are (Almost) Endless

If you do consider this a fair price, though – or if you have no other options nearby to get your goat meat – then the good news is that this product can be used for a bunch of things. Goat meat can take the place of lamb or beef in curries and stews easily, and it has a mildly sweet note that can balance out spiciness and saltiness. It can also act as the primary protein in biryanis, simmered and then shredded to use in tacos, or thrown into a stir fry.

Costco’s product line can change in the blink of an eye, though, so if you are curious about Thomas Farms Halal Bone-In Goat Cubes, then get yourself down to the store sharpish – and while you’re down there, check out our favorite Costco finds for February. Goat meat wasn’t in that list, but hey… March is just around the corner…
