Another day, another unique international product we might need to start begging for here in America. Today, I’ve got my hands on two Hershey bars based on luxurious desserts (not to be confused with the Hershey bars based on simple desserts or the Hershey desserts based on chocolate bars). As for where these bars call home, that’s a little tricky. These bars were produced in Malaysia—for export to the Philippines. Do we call these Malaysian Hershey bars, or are they Philippine? Just to be safe, let’s call these Southeast Asian. More importantly, do we call them delicious? Let’s find out.

Cheesecake Hershey Bar!

Pros: There is a distinct rich cheesecake-y flavor to this chocolate bar that I’d like to see more of in the future. While chocolate isn’t my favorite variety of cheesecake, this definitely emulates it—for better or for worse, as you’ll soon read.

Cons: Man, this really needed to be a white chocolate bar. The strength of the milk chocolate flavor really throws off the cheesecake vibe they’re aiming for. While the cookie bits do an okay job of embodying the texture of cheesecake crust, the flavor again just isn’t there. Take notes from the domestic Hershey’s Ice Cream Shoppe line: You can leave out the milk chocolate if the white chocolate flavor is good enough.

Tiramisu Hershey Bar!

Pros: Oh, this is a killer. The coffee flavor is deep and accurate, nearly bitter in the best possible way. Unlike the Choco Cheesecake bar, the milk chocolate actually furthers the flavor concept of tiramisu. As a tiramisu superfan, I would buy this regularly if it was available here in the States…with a few minor adjustments.

Cons: The cookie bits truly have no place here. No part of a tiramisu is supposed to be crunchy; what are we trying to achieve by going further from that classic tiramisu smoothness? There’s one thing that would make this more accurate and more yummy: dark chocolate. That added richness and complexity would definitely bring out more of that luxury dessert vibe.
