The New Hidden Valley Chicken Dippers Confused Me Deeply

Today, I made the mistake of coming into work excited to try what I thought would be Hidden Valley Ranch-seasoned chicken tenders. Like, breaded, fried chicken tenders with zesty buttermilk ranch seasoning, à la Pilgrim’s Zesty Ranch Popcorn Nuggets (which we love). Why? Because that’s what I pictured when I heard the words “Hidden Valley Ranch Chicken Dippers.”

No.  

Everyone, I encourage you to take a deep breath and open your mind’s eye. Imagine a leafy salad with a bed of grilled chicken strips on top, next to a side of ranch dressing. Can you see it? Can you feel it? Then, take away the leafy salad part. That’s what Hidden Valley Ranch’s new Chicken Dippers are. Grilled chicken strips in a small plastic tub packaged with a cup of ranch dressing. And that’s it. 

Well, I tried them. Here is my honest review.

Hidden Valley Ranch Chicken Dippers: Ranch and Buffalo Seasoned

Pros: I’m a negative person at heart. You’ve probably sensed that by now. But I have good things to say about these, I promise I do. The grilled chicken is tender and well-seasoned in both the buffalo and ranch version. They are only 240 calories per serving, so I understand the appeal of this as a simple diet snack. 

Cons: The experience of eating these is just kinda sad. That’s a little harsh, I know. But we’re dipping a slice of grilled chicken in gloopy ranch like it’s a carrot stick and calling it a snack, and I’m simply not evolved enough as a person to be okay with that. 

Verdict: I totally understand this as a high-protein dieting snack, I do. And I’ve calmed down since my initial disappointment over the lack of ranch-seasoned chicken tenders in our work freezer. But these chicken dippers are definitely going in our next “Why have they done this?” video series, that’s for sure.
