When you think of a convenience store or gas station, you don’t necessarily think of interesting or even good food; usually, it’s a strange rolling hot dog that’s been under a hot lamp for too long (and stale taquitos). That is, unless you live near a Wawa. The food from Wawa is what you get in a cross-over between a gas station and a fast-food chain―and it’s awesome. Forgot to get gas on your way home from work the day before and you have to skip breakfast in the morning to squeeze in the extra stop? No problem, Wawa’s got the gas you need and a top tier snack to get your day started off strong. And now, Wawa has expanded their menu to include four new affordable items for those of us tired of sandwiches and burritos.

What’s New?
On April 23rd, Wawa released their brand-new Snack & Go Tacos to locations nationwide. The tacos are available in four different flavors, each coming in at least 13 grams of protein. All tacos are served with a flour tortilla as the shell and each comes in at $2.79. They’re customizable and all can be made with black beans as their plant-based protein option.
The first taco is the Seasoned Beef & Fire-Roasted Corn taco, topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and chipotle sauce. This is the only new taco with beef, rather than chicken, as the base. The Spicy Cheesy Chicken taco and the Cali Chicken taco both have cheese, lettuce, and salsa Roja―the difference being the addition of avocado to the Cali Chicken. Similarly, the Crispy Cheesy Chicken has crispy jalapeños in place of the avocado.
How Reddit Really Feels
The overwhelming response that these tacos have gotten from Wawa customers is that they are decent. Users on reddit range from giving the tacos rage reviews to saying that they weren’t necessarily bad, but not worth getting again. The main issue with the new items is the strain it is putting on the workers. Each flavor is unique and therefore fiddly. Workers have taken to the reddit threads to say that the tacos take too much time and make worse the issue they were already having of the menu expanding beyond the capabilities of staff. More than anything, this bold launch sounds inconsistent. If I happen to be in Wawa for one of their consistent coffees, I might try one of the new tacos. But I won’t be going out of my way to pick one up.
