Everyone has a special sandwich they grew up eating that, no matter how strange it might sound to others, makes perfect sense to you. Just ask Jeff Daniels, who, while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, told Stephen Colbert his favorite sandwich—and it’s an unusual one we can’t wait to try.

What is Jeff Daniels’ favorite sandwich?
The Emmy-winning actor’s favorite sandwich is made with pita bread (the circular type without an air pocket), a quarter inch of creamy peanut butter spread on “only half” of the bread, and Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles (the best Ruffles flavor according to our ranking). “You’re getting a handful of them, and you’re crunching them up, and you’re sprinkling them on the peanut butter,” explains The Newsroom star. But wait, there’s more. Then you drizzle your favorite barbecue sauce—”Sweet Baby Ray’s is preferred,” according to Daniels—and fold the pita over.
“It’s my three—could be my three favorite tastes,” he told Colbert. “It’s like visiting three countries at once and they’re all in your mouth.”
What does the sandwich taste like?
Parade writer Nathan Hutsenpiller wrote that the sandwich “absolutely smashed [his] taste buds” as the “combination perfectly balances sweet, tangy and nutty notes while offering a rich, creamy and smoky profile, with the cheddar-flavored chips bringing a satisfying crunch and an extra punch of flavor to each bite.” He also said he “couldn’t recommend this sandwich enough,” which is high praise.
Food TikToker Barry W. Enderwick, aka Sandwiches of History, also tested it, saying the sandwich combination worked well and giving it a score of 7. He did, however, suggest adding some green onions because they pair well with the other ingredients.
