Kellogg’s Wants to Reward You for Eating Cereal for Dinner

What does “breakfast for dinner” mean to you? An omelet? A waffle? Usually, when we think of eating breakfast for dinner, we picture an evening meal of classic, hearty breakfast foods like pancakes or eggs and bacon—not a bowl of cereal. But Kellogg’s is trying to change all of that by rewarding people for eating cereal for dinner. Say what now?

Why does Kellogg’s want me to eat cereal for dinner? Are they doing okay?

Well, maybe Kellogg’s decided to start marketing cereal as a dinner food simply as a way to sell more cereal. Or maybe this is a publicity stunt just to catch the attention of people like me and you (in which case, it’s working!). Or maybe they genuinely just want us to start our evening feeling grrrrrrreat? We don’t know their exact motivation, but here’s what we do know: In a recent Instagram post, Kellogg’s announced they are doing a cereal giveaway, with the tagline, “turn that weekly dinner dread into cereal for dinner instead!”

Look, I don’t know how much “dinner dread” I’ve actually experienced in my life, but they definitely got my attention. Basically, Kellogg’s is asking people to take a photo of themselves and their families (in my case, it would be me and my cat) eating cereal for dinner and share it on social media with the hashtag #kelloggscerealfordinnerentry.

You might be asking, “What’s in this for me (besides a big ol’ 7 p.m. bowl of Froot Loops)?”

And the answer could be: Money! And also free cereal! If you post a cereal for dinner photo with that hashtag, you will be entered for a chance to win $5,000 and a year’s supply of Kellogg’s cereal. Dang, that’s a lot of cereal (and money). Kellogg’s will pick a new winner every week from now until September 26—that’s five whole winners! At this point, it feels kind of worth it to give it a shot, even if you feel like the odds are slim and you’re just one tiny (frosted) flake in a snowstorm, or one mini-wheat in a field full of grain. Why not try?!

If you do win, please let me know. Because then, not only will you get a ton of free cereal and money, but I’ll feel like I helped out by sharing this giveaway with you. And then we’re all winners! Also, please let me know how that whole cereal for dinner thing goes. I’m curious if it’s really grrrrrrrrreat and filling and fun, or if it just feels like a struggle meal you’d eat because you worked late and forgot to meal prep. Oop… now I understand that whole “dinner dread” thing.
