In terms of fast food iconography, the KFC bucket is up there. People have had their fried chicken delivered to them in bucket form since 1957, when KFC franchisee Pete Harmon sold his customers tubs of thighs, legs, and wings following Colonel Sanders passing them on to his store – and the rest is history. Now, KFC chicken comes in all kinds of differently shaped vehicles – boxes, wrappers, between burger buns – but the bucket remains, steadfast and trustworthy.

It’s just gotten smaller, though. A lot smaller. But don’t worry: There’s method behind it. Bored of balancing KFC between your legs in your car? It’s got you covered with its newest release.

KFC Go Buckets

This week, KFC is introducing its new Go Buckets, new mini-buckets that are, as you can probably guess from their name, designed for on-the-go eating. Starting from $3.49, these buckets combine chicken and fries or wedges in one handy container: You can choose from four nuggets, two wings, or one tender, along with your choice of potato-based side. There’s also a popcorn chicken option currently listed on the KFC website, too. These buckets have roughly the same dimensions as a soda cup, although they look a little wider – and as such, they’ll fit in standard car cupholders.

According to KFC, Go Buckets are designed for grazing, not necessarily as a full meal. “Go Buckets open up a new snacking occasion for KFC, whether guests are grabbing one on the go or picking up a few to feed the group,” said KFC US’ chief marketing officer, Melissa Cash, in its press release. “We wanted to meet those changing habits by giving guests more for their money while making it easier to enjoy the KFC they know and love.” They also fall in line with the push from virtually all fast food, fast-casual, and convenience store chains this year to create more affordable options for customers. And don’t worry: Its standard buckets aren’t going anywhere.

Go! Now!

KFC Go Buckets are available immediately, so if you’re in the mood for some car-bound snacking today, here’s your sign. The introduction of its Go Buckets comes in a busy few weeks for the chain, during which it announced a collaboration with a streamer (which gives people the opportunity to get a free bucket) and debuted a new restaurant style. Lots going on in the House of Chicken right now, huh?
