If I’m buying food at Starbucks I’m buying egg bites. In my opinion, they’re the best food at Starbucks. They’re savory. They’re fun to eat. They’re portable. They’re somewhat nutritional because…egg. Great! I typically limit my Starbucks egg bite consumption to road trips or early morning travel, but what if all I had to do was open up my fridge to get an egg bites fix? In Sporked’s ongoing search for faithful, more affordable dupes, I tasted Costco’s bacon and gouda egg bites to find out if they truly are as good as everyone on Reddit says

Are Kirkland Signature Uncured Bacon and Gouda Bites a Starbucks Egg Bites Dupe?

Costco’s egg bites can be found in the refrigerated section—not frozen, like I initially thought. Each giant, Costco-sized box includes five two-packs of egg bites that are bigger than the ones you get at Starbucks.

The instructions tell you to cook them in an air fryer, microwave, or toaster oven. I tried them both in the microwave and using the air fryer setting on our (now dearly departed) toaster oven. If you want them to get that crispy crust like you get with Starbucks egg bites, you’ll need to use the air fryer. Even then, though, they don’t get quite the same level of crust.

The flavors are also not quite the same—but that’s not a bad thing. The Costco egg bites are cheesier than Starbucks egg bites—they’re saltier and more savory and more authentically gouda-y. They also have bigger pieces of bacon in the mix than the Starbucks egg bites. The texture of the egg, though, is similar. It’s silky and custardy.

Nutritionally speaking, the Costco egg bites are actually lower in calories than the Starbucks egg bites. It’s 250 calories with 16g of fat for two Costco egg bites and 300 calories with 20g of fat for two Starbucks egg bites. Starbucks has a slight edge on protein—19g vs 17g in the Costco egg bites.

Verdict: Dupe!

The Kirkland brand egg bites might not be an exact one-to-one dupe for Starbucks egg bites, but they’re close enough to get a “buy” from me. Plus, you won’t have to come up with an easy to spell fake “Starbucks name” if you make your own Costco egg bites at home.

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
