Sure, three paintings by Renoir, Cezanne, and Matisse that are worth millions were just stolen in a heist in Italy. But that’s not important. You can’t eat a painting. What we’re concerned about is much more delicious and much more likely to affect our own lives: A 12-ton shipment of Kit Kat bars was stolen in Europe. That’s 413,793 Kit Kat bars.

What happened?
According to CBS News, the chocolate bars went missing last week while they were in transit between its production site in Italy and distribution location in Poland. Nestle (Kit Kat’s owner), seems to have a pretty good attitude about the theft. “We’ve always encouraged people to have a break with Kit Kat,” a rep said in a statement. “But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate.” Ha. Ha.
How does this affect you?
Let’s get serious, Nestle rep, because this is important! Could this theft result in a Kit Kat shortage? Could we be without our precious sticks of chocolate-covered wafers this Easter? According to Nestle, it is possible! Per CBS News, “The chocolatier warned that the missing chocolate bars may lead to a shortage of Kit Kats appearing on shelves and buyers may struggle to find their favorite chocolates ahead of Easter.” Cue me clearing out the Kit Kats at stores and selling them on the black market this Saturday. If I retire next week, you’ll know it’ll have been a success.
Have the thieves been caught?
As of this writing, the vehicle, the thieves, and the chocolates remain at large. Officials are keeping an eye out for the chocolate bars appearing in European markets. They will be scanning the batch codes found on the bars. If someone finds a match, there will be instructions on how to let Kit Kat know.
