Kraft Heinz is going hard on plant-based products, recently releasing plant-based chocolate pudding (we did not review it here on Sporked but it is phenomenal and I genuinely like it more than regular JELLO chocolate pudding), as well as series of products made in collaboration with NotCo including Not Mayo, Not Cheese, and Not Hot Dogs. And, of course, there’s today’s plant-based product: new Plant Based Kraft Mac & Cheese microwave cups. A childhood classic, but with no dairy! Kraft very generously sent over some cups, so let’s dive in and see how they stack up against the classic microwavable mac.

New Plant-Based Mac!

Kraft Original Plant Based Mac & Cheese Cups Review

Pros: It certainly tastes like mac and cheese! I can’t tell you how many brands have tried to make their plant-based mac and cheese taste like regular mac and cheese and failed miserably. Though it’s not exact, it is very reminiscent of the classic Kraft mac and cheese so many of us grew up on.

Cons: Do not smell it. Trust me. Just don’t. Thankfully the aroma did not stop me from enjoying the mac and cheese but it sure had me reconsidering at first. I don’t know how exactly to describe the smell other than to simply say: It does not smell like mac and cheese.

Verdict: If you can’t have dairy products and have been looking for a good alternative for your microwavable mac and cheese needs, I’d definitely recommend giving Kraft a try. Just don’t smell it. Seriously.
