We’re very pleased with one cultural development in particular this year, and how it’s translating into food. That cultural development is this: Everything feels a bit spacey. We kinda have “Project Hail Mary” to thank for that, which has been a huge box office smash and which has brought with it a new Starry Astrophage Burst – but we’ve also seen Bubly’s new Super Mario Galaxy seltzers (which aren’t bad!), and they have the word “galaxy” in them, so they kinda fall under the same umbrella.

Now, we’ve got one more space-themed food, thanks to Oreo and Krispy Kreme. The food companies are teaming up to release the Artemis II Doughnut, which lands tomorrow. Yes, TOMORROW. Here’s what we know.
Beam Me Up, Doughy
Oreo and Krispy Kreme’s new doughnut was conceived to celebrate the launch of the Artemis II lunar flyby, which is due to set off in just a few days and which is the first crewed lunar flight in more than half a century. The mission will send four astronauts to circle the Moon, with a longer view to the Artemis IV lunar landing in 2028, during which humans will land on the satellite once more.
Well, what better way to celebrate all of that than with fried dough and icing? That’s the philosophy of these two brands, anyway, and we’re inclined to say that we agree – so we’re excited about this one. As @markie_devo reports, the Artemis II doughnut will start with an Original Glazed doughnut, which is then dipped in blue vanilla‑flavored icing before being sprinkled with little Oreo pieces and white nonpareils. It’s then got a big ol’ dollop of cookies and creme buttercream on top, and it’s finished with a red chevron, referencing NASA’s logo. We don’t think that the astronauts on the Artemis II will get a chance to try this one, and they’re probably not going to make a space food version. But hey. Stranger things have happened.
Here for a Few Days Only
This new Oreo x Krispy Kreme doughnut really won’t be around for long, so act now to snap it up. It drops in participating Krispy Kreme locations tomorrow, March 31, and it’ll only be available until April 2. You can either get it on its own or as part of an Artemis II dozen. If you’re so inclined, you can preorder yours online now, on Krispy Kreme’s website.
This doughnut is just the latest in Krispy Kreme’s output this year, which has been frankly non-stop. A couple of weeks back, it brought out its St. Patrick’s Day menu, which was swiftly followed by its Easter Basket collection. It’s on a roll, and no cultural event or interplanetary mission is safe (we know it’s not technically an interplanetary one, we just wanted to say it. Let’s have fun, guys, it’s Monday).
