It’s mid-August, which means we’re already around a month into fall—at least in the grocery world, where the pumpkin spice products flow like wine. In fact, I’m pretty sure pumpkin spice wine is a thing (oop, it is). But that’s beside the point, because something even weirder is hitting stores this year: Laughing Cow Pumpkin Spice Cheese wedges

If you’re a pumpkin spice apologist, I know what you’re thinking: Pumpkin spice cheesecake and pumpkin spice cream cheese already exist, and this isn’t that different. True. Those things do exist, but let’s talk about what sets this new pumpkin spice product apart—and why we’re kind of excited to try it.

What kind of cheese is Laughing Cow, anyway?

Good question! The original Laughing Cow wedges are a blend of cheddar and semisoft cheese, and most of the brand’s flavors (Garlic & Herb, Jalapeno) are as well. The limited edition pumpkin spice Laughing Cow wedges, however, are made with gouda. Pumpkin spice gouda sounds weird, right? But it just might work.

Gouda (especially gouda that hasn’t been aged) is creamy, mild, and naturally a little bit sweet. The pumpkin spice flavor profile—which typically includes warm, sweet baking spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice—might have really clashed with something assertive and salty like cheddar, but gouda sounds like a decent choice.

What does one do with spreadable, pumpkin spice-flavored cheese?

The brand suggests eating it on toast and apple slices, and there’s an image on the product page that shows it slathered on fat baguette slices along with walnuts and a drizzle of honey, so it definitely seems like it will lean more sweet and savory. Oh and it actually contains dried pumpkin, unlike a lot of other pumpkin spice products.

What other pumpkin spice products can we look forward to this year?

Wow, you’re really on the PS train, huh? No shame. We have a full roundup of this year’s pumpkin spice products in the works, but highlights include the return of Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts, Pumpkin Spice Tate’s Cookies, Goldfish Pumpkin Spice Grahams, and Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Spice Milanos. Those will all be rolling out over the next month or so, but in the meantime you can keep your eyes peeled for Pumpkin Spice Laughing Cow at big supermarkets including Kroger, Albertsons, Market Basket, Brookshire Grocery, Meijer, and Publix, where it’s available from now until November.

Are you excited to try new Laughing Cow pumpkin spice cheese?

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
