McDonald’s’ collaboration with “KPop Demon Hunters,” that cultural phenomenon that took over our lives for the better part of a year (and is still absolutely everywhere), was a pretty big deal. McDonald’s released its two official KPop Demon Hunters meals a couple of weeks back, and alongside the HUNTRIX Meal and the Saja Boys Breakfast Meal came the Derpy McFlurry, made with vanilla ice cream, wild berry sauce, and “berry popping pearls,” berry-flavored boba, which gives it a lil’ boost of texture.

Well, you didn’t think that McDonald’s fans would look at new ingredients like that and not come up with some hacks, did you? Of course you didn’t. Folks have started going Derpy-style with their Sprites and Lemonades at McDonald’s, and we’re here to explain exactly what that means, and what it tastes like.
Methinks This Drink Could Be a Bit More…Derpy
This new drinks hack started to make waves almost immediately after the KPop Demon Hunters menu items dropped, and it’s a pretty simple one to pull off. First, you enter your local McDonald’s (duh), walk up to the counter (duh), and open your mouth (duh). Ask for your drink of choice, and then either a regular Derpy McFlurry or check to see whether the person serving you will just put the boba pearls and sauce into your drink without having to make an additional order. They might; they might not. If they don’t, you’ll need to scoop the pearls and sauce out of your McFlurry and put it in yourself, although you can always ask for a Derpy McFlurry without ice cream. Feels like a waste, though.
Then, once your drink is assembled, you…drink it! According to people who have tried the hack, the pearls and sauce give your drink a nice berry flavor, without totally overwhelming it. The boba pearls also fit through the straw nicely. If you do end up getting any of the McFlurry in your drink, you’ll also get a bit of a dirty soda effect, and thereby be inadvertently taking part in the drink trend that’s sweeping the nation. You can do this one with non-citrus-based drinks, too, but Sprite and Lemonade will work best, thanks to their sharpness.
And Where Can I Try This Hack?
The KPpop Demon Hunters meals are currently being served nationwide, so you can do it anywhere they’re available. And soon, you’ll be able to take part in this drinks hack in Canada, too: McDonald’s KPop Hunters Meals are heading to the country on May 12, so even more people can experience the joy of boba pearls flying up their straw at the speed of light. And trust us, it is a joy – boba’s fun!
