McDonald’s New Pokémon Happy Meals Are A Collector’s Dream

A couple of months ago we heard about the collaboration between McDonald’s and Pokémon going on in Japan in celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. To say we were jealous would be an understatement, but even beyond that it felt distinctly like a missed opportunity for McDonald’s to not release such an exciting collaboration in the United States due to the overwhelming fan base it has here.

But as it turns out, McDonald’s had something special in the works for us, too. Now we’re on the precipice of seeing the collaboration come to McDonald’s locations nationwide, and we won’t have to wait long now to get our hands on it. Starting November 5 and spanning until December 9, Pokémon fans will be able to get their hands on exclusive Pokémon-themed happy meals complete with a randomized booster pack. While the collaboration may not come in the same form as the Japanese Pokémon menu, dare I say we may have gotten the better end of the deal here in the States. Let’s break down this exciting news.

An Extra Happy Meal

For Pokémon fans, this is kind of a best case scenario collaboration. For starters, the meal itself is your standard Happy Meal from McDonald’s that will come with Kids Fries, apple slices, your choice of eligible beverage, and either a Hamburger, a four-count of McNuggets, or a six-count of McNuggets. Essentially, if you like McDonald’s food at all you can probably enjoy what comes in a Happy Meal, even if you’re not a kid.

But where this Happy Meal really gets exciting isn’t through the kids food we can always get at McDonald’s. This Happy Meal is anything but ordinary. On the outside, we can this Happy Meal to be immediately distinct. Each Pokémon Happy Meal is expected to be served in a limited-edition Pokémon box, subbing out the red and gold McDonald’s from a typical Happy Meal.

Furthermore, each Happy Meal will come with a four-card booster pack of Pokémon cards tucked inside. Collectors, be ready! While the collaboration may span over a month, there’s no guarantee of stock. So if you are adamant on trying collect them all, then we’d suggest you run to the Drive-Thru as early as possible.

More On The Cards

For anyone intent on collecting these cards, you’re probably asking what you might have the opportunity of pulling. Luckily for us, fans at PokéBeach have been informed that there will be 15 overall cards available to pull, with six of those having a special confetti holo-foil finish. Each pack, and thus each Happy Meal, is guaranteed to have one holo-foil card in it, as well as three standard cards.
