M&M’s Made A ‘Practical Magic’ Candy You Can Only Get At Midnight

M&M’s is making candy based on a love spell from Practical Magic, which sounds like a pretty good use of Halloween.

The brand is teaming up with Practical Magic 2 to create a limited-edition Amas Veritas Spell & Snack Pack inspired by the “Amas Veritas” charm from the original 1998 movie. Inside are custom M&M’s decorated with symbols from the spell, plus four new designs tied to the upcoming sequel.

And there’s a slightly inconvenient part: You can only get them at midnight.

The M&M’s Are Inspired By The Love Spell

If you’ve seen Practical Magic, you’ll probably remember the Amas Veritas scene. Young Sally Owens recites the love spell to conjure the perfect, impossible man―deliberately dreaming up someone who couldn’t exist, so she’d never fall in love and never risk getting her heart broken.

M&M’s has taken those magical symbols and put them on chocolate.

The limited-edition candies feature eight symbols inspired by the original spell, along with four new symbols created for Practical Magic 2. The new designs are meant to hint at some of the mysteries in the sequel, so there’s a little more going on here than putting a movie logo on a bag of M&M’s.

Although I’m not sure how much mystery you can really maintain when it’s printed on a chocolate candy.

You Can Get Them At Two Midnight Drops

The Amas Veritas Spell & Snack Pack isn’t being sold by itself. It’s a free gift with the purchase of an M&M’s Milk Chocolate Fun Size Sharing Bag through M&M’s website, while supplies last.

There are two chances to get one. The first drop happens at 12AM ET on Sept. 3rd, followed by another at 12AM. ET on Sept. 14th. For anyone on the West Coast, that’s 9PM PT on Sept. 2nd and Sept. 13th.

So yes, you’re setting an alarm for M&M’s.

Honestly, there are worse reasons to be awake at midnight.

Camilla Belle Is Recreating The Scene

M&M’s is also bringing back Camilla Belle, who played young Sally Owens in the original Practical Magic. She’ll recreate the Amas Veritas spell scene in social content for the brand, this time with the new M&M’s making an appearance.

It’s a fitting choice, considering Belle was actually in the original scene. Nearly three decades later, she’s back to recite the spell again, only now there’s a chocolate product involved.

I suppose that’s what we call growth.

Practical Magic 2 Is Coming Soon

The candy collaboration is timed around the release of Practical Magic 2, which hits theaters Sept. 10th. The sequel brings the Owens family back for another round of magic, romance, and whatever else tends to happen when witches get involved.

For Practical Magic fans, the M&M’s are a pretty specific piece of nostalgia. They’re also limited, and the two drops are only happening while supplies last.

So if you want them, you’re going to have to stay up late.
