Here’s a fun fact: “Auld Lang Syne” was actually written about all the energy drinks that get discontinued on January 1st every year. The “old acquaintance” referenced in the song refers to an early “Hot Ale Flip” flavored Red Bull variant. Just ignore all the bones in your body begging you to verify those facts; they’re super accurate.
This year, we’ll be singing the only NYE-themed song in honor of three Monster Energy drinks heading off to the big cooler in the sky. While we had an inkling that two of these drinks were on the way out, the third is a total surprise… unless you monitor trends as closely as I do. Let’s get into the somber news.
Monster Reserve Orange Dreamsicle and Peaches n’ Créme
Per a major retailer’s “discontinued SKU” list shared with us earlier this month, these two full-sugar drinks from Monster’s indulgent “Reserve” line are on their way out. While the Orange Dreamsicle flavor will live on in a new, slightly different full sugar format that just started hitting shelves, Peaches n’ Créme is truly dead and gone. Peach Monster fans will have to get by with the zero-sugar Ultra Peachy Keen in the meantime.
Is Monster’s “Reserve” line entirely discontinued?
Great question! There were only three drinks in the line, and as we just discussed, two are discontinued next week… but what about White Pineapple? While I haven’t seen anything confirming the death of that particular drink, it must be on the way out, right? This “indulgent” full-sugar genre of Monster Energy drink is alive and well, between the revived Orange Dreamsicle and “Electric Blue“. If White Pineapple is somehow sticking around, I bet we’ll see a new look to match.
Monster Ultra Watermelon
Here’s our only zero-sugar cut from this batch of tragedies: Monster is saying farewell to a variety pack mainstay, Ultra Watermelon. Considering how many fantastic new Ultra flavors are launched every year (with at least two planned for 2026), it’s inevitable that some older flavors will fall behind as consumers gravitate towards the new and shiny. Is it possible America at large is tired of zero-sugar watermelon? In the very same month Monster discontinues this drink, Red Bull will kill their Sugarfree Red Edition. Thank goodness the watermelon superfans still have… Watermelon Twist Starbucks Iced Energy? Oh, you poor things.
