Who do you trust when it comes to your groceries?

Newsweek and market research company Brandspark just released the 13th Annual Most Trusted Awards, dedicated to “celebrating the brands that have earned the trust of U.S. shoppers.” To do this, they surveyed 35,215 consumers across the country about 359 categories of different products and stores, including “most trusted frozen pizza” (DiGiorno), “most trusted macaroni & cheese” (Kraft), and “most trusted hot sauce” (Frank’s RedHot).
There was also a whole category about everyone’s favorite grocery stores, including the best stores for affordability, customer service and convenience. Wondering which one topped the list?
Walmart swept the most categories
The survey doesn’t include one overall winner, as it separates grocery stores into several different categories like “Conventional Supermarket (non-discount), Discount Supermarket, and Grocery Store for low prices,” as well as breaking several of the categories into geographic regions (West, South, Midwest, Northeast, etc.).
However, Walmart came first in 11 categories, the most of any grocery store chain. Most notably, it came first in “Grocery Store for Customer Service,” “Grocery Store for Store Brand/ Private Label Products,” and “Supermarket for Sales & Promotions.”
I was a bit more surprised by the runner up: discount supermarket chain Aldi, as it certainly doesn’t have the reach and size of Walmart. I guess that’s why it swept the categories of “small format grocery store” and “discount supermarket” categories, with Walmart coming second to it whenever it won. So it seems like if you want general satisfaction, head to Walmart, but if you’re looking for discounts, you might want to give Aldi a try.
