Previously on Sporked….we tried the brand new Baja Blast Spinoff: Mountain Dew Cabo Citrus. While I wasn’t blown away by it, I deemed it to be very good if not particularly creative. And now, it’s time to taste the zero sugar version. And that’s actually a big deal. Because it’s the first ever zero sugar variant of a Baja Blast spinoff!
Much like its full sugar counterpart, Mountain Dew Cabo Citrus Zero Sugar promises to be a “Tropical Citrus Punch” flavor while featuring tangerines and limes on the label. Mountain Dew themselves were kind enough to send over some bottles, so I am eager as ever to crack one open and see how it stacks up against the full sugar Dew. Let’s dew it. (That was funny. Please laugh.)
Pros: This is very likely the closest thing we will ever get to a LiveWire Zero Sugar. Fans of LiveWire who are not able to drink full sugar drinks will be quite happy. And the aftertaste is not as harsh as your average aftertaste from a Mountain Dew Zero. Instead, I’m left with a pretty pleasant citrusy orange flavor.
Cons: Unfortunately the lime flavor is even more muted in the zero sugar version than it is in the full sugar version. It is very difficult for me to detect any lime flavor at all, and while it still tastes good (and I appreciate how close it is to a theoretical LiveWire Zero Sugar), I’m still a little bit disappointed I’m getting virtually no lime here.
