Last year, we reported that Mountain Dew Supernova was returning to Canada as a replacement for Mountain Dew Pitch Black, which was said to be discontinued. Unfortunately, only half of that statement ended up playing out like we’d been told: Pitch Black was indeed discontinued, but no Supernova was to be found anywhere.

It seems a once trusted source had given me some false information and that a Supernova release was not planned. However, even though the release was revealed to not be as real as we expected, it did not stop the demand from myself via Team Supernova and the rest of the hardcore fans—aka Dew Nation. Comments and posts tagging Mountain Dew Canada flooded social media.
Thankfully, I am happy to report that Mountain Dew Canada heard our cries. We asked for Supernova to be released permanently in Canada and, by golly, they have released Supernova permanently in Canada, specifically citing all of our demand for the flavor.
When will Mountain Dew Supernova be available? Is it exclusive to any retailer? Does it come in zero sugar? Does it come in cans?
Okay, okay I know you’re excited, but gosh golly that is a LOT of questions! In order: right now, no, no, and no. Supernova is hitting stores right now (along with another returning flavor, more on that in a sec). It is not exclusive. It does not come in zero sugar. It will not be sold in cans of any kind.
What is Mountain Dew Supernova?
In my totally unbiased and purely objective opinion, Mountain Dew Supernova is the greatest flavor of Mountain Dew ever created. In the United States (and previously in Canada) it’s been described as “Strawberry Melon & Ginseng” flavored Dew. This time around it’s being described as “Berry Melon,” but I suspect this change is not indicative of any flavor changes. Pepsi has been known to exclude the word “Strawberry” from labels in recent history. Take the former Food Lion exclusive Uproar, which is labeled as “Berry Kiwi” despite being a Strawberry Kiwi flavor. We suspect this is the case here. The main change with this release of Supernova is that ginseng seems to have been removed from the ingredients list.
What does this Canadian Supernova taste like?
Thanks to some very, very kind people (shout out to my good friend Lily from the Dew Drinker Discord and her wide offering of Canadian sodas available for sale), I got my hands on some Canadian Supernova and we’ll be cracking some open for a review VERY very soon. Stay tuned!
What is the other returning Mountain Dew flavor?
In addition to Supernova, Summer Freeze will be making a comeback! Summer Freeze is a Cherry-Lemon-Raspberry flavor of Dew, inspired by the nostalgic red, white, and blue popsicles we all grew up enjoying in our childhoods. Like Supernova, it’s not exclusive and there will be no zero sugar (which is unfortunate, because we LOVED Summer Freeze Zero when we tried it last year). Summer Freeze returns to Canada after being released as a limited time offering the past two years. It was massively successful both times.
Wait, is Summer Freeze permanent?
Listen, I just work here okay. I’m as surprised as you are, but Pepsi Canada tells me that they are always following the demand and the demand has led them to Supernova and Summer Freeze!
Which Mountain Dew flavors are being discontinued to make room for these flavors?
You know the classic saying, “The Mountain Dude giveth, and the Mountain Dude taketh away.” Unfortunately (for some), The Mountain Dude has taketh away both Spark and Major Melon—two flavors that had been previously discontinued in the United States. Pepsi Canada added though, “Stay tuned for what is next to come!” You know we will Pepsi, you know we will.
