Mountain Dew Supernova Is Coming Back—But There’s a Catch

While fans of Mountain Dew Pitch Black in the United States have scrambled to find their favorite flavor of Mountain Dew (it only exists in fountain machines in the U.S. at the time of publication), Canadian Dew drinkers have been enjoying 591mL (20 oz) bottles of Pitch Black since January of 2023. But that’s about to change.

Mountain Dew Pitch Black Is Being Discontinued

Unfortunately, despite it previously being labeled as a “permanent flavor,” Pitch Black seems to have not been performing particularly well as PepsiCo Canada has reportedly decided to discontinue the flavor in Canada. Lots of fans of the flavor online had been reporting that their favorite grape soda was becoming harder to find and unfortunately it seems that this is why. It’s never a good day when a flavor (or flavour, for all you Canadians) gets discontinued. This is a very sad day for Dew Canada. Stock up while you can!

What Mountain Dew flavor is replacing Pitch Black?

According to Supernova Super Stan Team Supernova on Instagram, Pitch Black is being replaced by none other than fan favorite Mountain Dew Supernova! This will mark the first time since 2014 that Supernova has been sold in bottles in North America. Supernova is described as being a Strawberry Melon Dew with Ginseng (fans of Mountain Dew Voltage will notice that the ginseng offers a similar kick in both flavors).

Our sources say that Supernova will be a permanent release in Canada. It is important to note that as with all releases (as we’re seeing with Pitch Black), permanent doesn’t mean forever—it just means it’ll stick around as long as it’s selling well.

When will Mountain Dew Supernova drop?

Sources say that Supernova should hit Canadian shelves sometime in the late spring or early summer. As with most Canadian Mountain Dew releases, Circle K and Couche Tard will receive exclusive access to the flavor first, then Supernova will have a wider release shortly thereafter.

What about the United States? Do we get Mountain Dew Supernova?

It pains me to write this. In fact, I’m crying at the club. As the World’s Self-Proclaimed #1 Supernova Super Stan, I would love nothing more than to see Supernova get a proper permanent release in the United States. Unfortunately, as of the time of publication, nothing is planned for Supernova and the United States.

I am holding onto a bit of hope however; the previously Canada-exclusive HoneyDEW is now set to release in the United States after performing well in Canada. Perhaps if Supernova also performs well in Canada, we might expect something similar for the United States. Either way, please cross your fingers and yell at Pepsi U.S. that you need Supernova in the United States. Or prepare an epic road trip up to Canada to procure some Supernova!

  • I bought Mountain Dew products until they started adding and removing all these different flavors. Every time I found one I enjoyed, it was discontinued. I started making my own caffeinated beverages for my morning wakeup – hot chocolate in colder months and soda when it’s hotter. It’s cheaper than Mountain Dew by a long way and I don’t have to worry about it disappearing.

  • Isn’t the USA the leading country in soda consumption?

  • Let the people in the United States also have the pitch black, supernova, if it don’t take off pack it up and Canada or other countries will take the Dew. Why do the companies put all other ingredients that don’t need to be in the drinks, why does every drink have to be loaded with sugar and extra sugar? What would the natural Mountain Dew taste like without all the other ingredients that don’t even need to be in all soda. If you do diet soda try either monk fruit or stevia leaf no other sugar stop using high fruit corn syrup, splenda, sucrose, aspartame. Use cane sugar,or raw sugar for regular soda.

  • I wanna know if it’s true that they sell Mt. Dew flavored Lay’s potato chips in Australia. If so why can’t we get them here in the USA?
