After much hype, anticipation, and a few unfortunate hoaxes, I am finally able to report that Mountain Dew Supernova has launched permanently in Canada! If you’ve been a longtime follower of my work on Sporked or outside of it, then you know that I am a HUGE fan of Mountain Dew Supernova. To say that it is great is an understatement!
I’ve gotten my hands on Mountain Dew Supernova from Canada (shoutout to Lily from the Dew Drinker Discord who has an incredible selection of Canadian drinks—she also hooked me up with a Canada-exclusive Crush flavor that I’ll be reviewing soon) so that brings us to the ultimate question: How is Canadian Supernova and, more importantly, how accurate is it to the original? Let’s jump right into it!

Canadian Mountain Dew!

Pros: They say that nostalgia is a hell of a drug, and I’ve got to say I am experiencing a LOT of nostalgia upon opening my bottle of Supernova. The smell takes me right back to 2008—when middle school Tyler was getting his hands on Supernova for the first time and falling in love with the Mountain Dew brand. I get notes of both strawberry and melon. This is a very solid recreation of one of the best flavors of Mountain Dew, however…
Cons: As I noted when I first reported on Canadian Supernova, the difference between Canadian Supernova and American Supernova appears to be a lack of ginseng, which is noticeable. One thing I always loved about Supernova back in the day was the sort of “kick” it offered in the aftertaste. Without the ginseng, the aftertaste is less “kicky.” If you never experienced the original Supernova, I do not think you will necessarily see this as a “con,” but I do think that the lack of ginseng ever so slightly deducts accuracy points from an otherwise nearly flawless flavor.
Verdict: Canada’s 2026 Supernova gets VERY close to recreating the original. I would say it is 85-90% accurate. If you’re in Canada or have the means to import it, I think Supernova is one to grab whether you’re new to the flavor or not. Supernova is my personal “Baja Blast” and it continues to be the case with this new Canadian release.
