Move Over Bucatini, Three Hot New Pasta Shapes Are Hitting Stores

Pasta shapes don’t exactly come around very often. It’s not all that surprising considering Italians created so many shapes to get us started on our pasta-fied life. As they say: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. What they don’t say is that you shouldn’t improve upon it, though! Silly mistake on their part. Monte’s Fine Foods, an Italian-American sauce and pasta brand, has taken it upon themselves to release a new pasta shape for all of us to enjoy!

Well, Three New Pasta Shapes Actually

This summer, Monte’s Fine Foods is introducing three new artisanal pasta shapes designed with intention. First is the aptly named Conchiglia pasta because it really does look like a conch shell. The center of the pasta is quite bulbous and the sides taper down like the tip of a conch. The back of the pasta has a wide opening so tons of meaty sauce can get sucked up inside.

Monte’s created their next pasta shape, Stella, with a shining star in mind. This shape is created by extruding the pasta through a star tip and cut into inch-long noodles. While you could boil it down to a penne noodle with a little flair, I think it’s selling this one short. Mainly for one stella-r use in particular. Imagine the pasta salad you could pull out on for summer BBQs thanks to this fancy shape! Your neighbors will be talking about it for months.

I only took one week of Italian in college so my understanding of the language could use a little help. Thanks to a bit of Googling, I was able to deduce that the name of the last pasta shape to be introduced, Bozzolo, means cocoon in Italian. Which makes a lot of sense when you look at the shape of it. Picture the rolled form of gnocchi just elongated and hollowed out. Like a cocoon! A smooth pasta sauce will work its way into these noodles and get locked away. Consider your shirt saved!
