Aldi’s New Popsicles Are A Candy Lover’s Dream

It’s still popsicle season, baby. We may be in the latter days of summer now, but there’s still plenty of time to sit on the grass, unwrap a frozen treat, and get it all over your hands, no napkin in sight. Retailers are still going hard on their popsicles, too: Trader Joe’s is piling its freezer aisle high with its own-brand frozen delights (which we ranked a few weeks back, just in case you wanted to whet your appetite this fine morning), and Aldi’s bringing a couple of new flavors to town.

And if you’re into candy flavors living where candy flavors normally don’t, you’ll love these. Sweet tooth required.

Aldi Sundae Shoppe Popsicles

According to @candyhunting, we’re getting two new Aldi Sundae Shoppe popsicle flavors next week: Cotton Candy and Bubble Gum. Now, these obviously aren’t out yet, so we can’t say how close they’ll be to the actual flavor of said candies, but they definitely look the part (in a sense – more on that in a moment). These two popsicles are a pastel-lover’s dream, coming in pink and blue shades, respectively. Fingers crossed they taste as good as they appear. 

The key thing here, though, is that these popsicles are gonna unleash a hell of a lot of nostalgia – and it seems like Aldi customers are already feeling it. “Okay, the Bubble Gum popsicles are unlocking all sorts of childhood memories, and they’re gonna have to be bought and enjoyed outside while it’s still 120°F,” said one commenter on @candyhunting’s post. One person did point out, though, that the colors being mixed up is slightly stressful: Shouldn’t the Bubble Gum be pink, and shouldn’t the Cotton Candy be blue? Perhaps…but we’re not gonna quibble too much.

And Something Fancy?

These popsicles aren’t the only desserts Aldi’s bringing out next week. @candyhunting also revealed that it’s got new Specially Selected Lemon Meringue Tartlets on the way. In each pack, you get two buttery shortcrust nests filled with lemon curd filling and topped with Italian meringue (with a caramelized finish). We can only hope that final component fares just a little better with customers than Trader Joe’s recent meringue nest drop, which received a mixed response due to the apparent dryness of the meringues and the lack of chewiness. I don’t think the same thing will happen here — well, I hope not, anyway. Don’t let us all down, please, Aldi.
