What to buy at Trader Joe’s this month? It’s the question we’re all plagued with as time continues to tick on. Well, I have some thoughts on the matter! As a frequent Trader Joe’s shopper, I have an eye for which new (or returning) items could be the next must-haves and which you probably should leave on the shelf (looking at you, Marshmallow Eggs—people barely like Peeps, let alone Peeps dupes). Here are the five new Trader Joe’s items I’m eying this month.

Ranch Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips

We only just heard that Trader Joe’s might be releasing two new flavors of their beloved Rolled Corn Tortillas and now here’s Ranch! Right on the shelf! (Stay tuned for Nacho.) Described as being “creamy, herby, and well-rounded” they’re flavored with buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley. Sounds pretty darn good—and like a great new vehicle for our favorite TJ’s dips

Cannelés

It’s pronounced “CAN-eh-leys,” and you’d better practice so you can sound authentically French while shouting from the rooftops how much you love cannelés. Wouldn’t want to be mistaken for a boisterous American. How embarrassing! These little pastries are distinct in their ridged, cylindrical shape that give them a crispy yet chewy caramelized outside but a custardy inside. It’s like if a waffle moved from the breakfast nook to a patisserie! You, on the other hand, only have to move as far as your freezer to grab a few of these limited-edition vanilla and rum-flavored treats to reheat and enjoy. Available until May!

Sliced Double Chocolate Brioche

There are times when you shouldn’t mess with a good thing, but this is not one of those times. Be ambitious! Strive for more! In this case, the addition of chocolate takes a classic brioche from good to great. Not only does the batter itself have cocoa powder mixed in, but the whole loaf is studded with chocolate chips, striking a balance of sweetness between bread and cake that makes this acceptable for all meals and occasions all the time forever. It’s even pre-sliced so you can keep a piece in your pocket for emergency snackage.

Jambalaya

Few things are equally fun to say and eat, but jambalaya lives happily in that venn diagram (along with neighbors, snickerdoodle and fluffernutter). The decidedly savory jambalaya is a hearty mix of rice, onion, tomato, green bell pepper, green onion, and andouille sausage. A single bag of this is seasoned, smoky, spicy, satisfying, and only needs a few minutes on the stovetop or microwave to prove why it’s a Louisiana staple.

Breakfast Bowl

When it comes to breakfast, there seems to always be a disparity between how much energy we have and what we want. Give us the scrambled eggs, the meat, the potato, the cheese, but none of the work to prepare it! None of the “putting on pants” to go to a diner to have someone else prepare it! The solution is this pre-prepped frozen breakfast, that has all of the staples already assembled into a microwave-ready bowl. Just a couple of minutes in the ol’ zapper separates you from scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, cheddar, pork sausage, bacon, and a creamy cheese sauce because TJ’s is an above and beyond kind of place.
