Ah, Ben and Jerry. The most iconic duo (maybe ever), Vermont’s finest social justice warriors, and now, the mans with the (fudgy) flans. That’s right, they have given us everything from Phish Food to Jimmy Fallon flavor, from Cherry Garcia to Chocolate Therapy (not covered by insurance—believe me, I tried), and now, when we needed it most, they are giving us a limited batch flavor called Ben & Jerry’s Fudgy Flan. I know, it’s a lot to take in. Let’s talk about it.
Will this new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor lean more fudgy or more flan-y? Will this be like that one time my coworker made her abuela’s chocoflan recipe, and it was maybe the single greatest thing to ever happen in an office?
Okay, hold on to your horses, your hats, and your pants, because I did get a glimpse of this new Fudgy Flan ice cream’s packaging, and y’all? It has a slice of chocoflan on it. For those of you wondering what chocoflan is, it is basically chocolate cake topped with flan, and it is, unironically, one of the best things that exists in this, the year of our Beyoncé 2025. Sometimes it is more custardy, sometimes it is more cheesecakey, but the bottom line is that it is delicious—toasty, caramelly, creamy, and richly chocolatey—and Ben and Jerry just made an ice cream based on it.
Now, how exactly did our Vermonter buddies pull this off? Well, it looks like this new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor will consist of a burnt caramel ice cream base with chunks of fudge brownie and pastry cream (custard) swirls. I have truly no notes. This balance will hopefully mean that the chocolate won’t overpower the caramel, and the custard swirls will give it all that hint of velvety flan texture. Obviously, the one thing this ice cream will be missing is that patented “jiggly wigglyTM” that all flan possesses, but hey, leave the pint out in the sun for a bit and I bet it will jiggle right up…or at least melt a lil bit.
This limited-time Fudgy Flan flavor has already been spotted in stores in Massachusetts, so it stands to reason that it will be coming to a store near you very, very soon. One more quick thing: The pint appears to say “taste the whirled” next to the Ben and Jerry’s logo. Does that mean we are about to get a series of global desserts made into chunky, swirly, deliciously dense ice creams? Only time will tell, but, Ben and Jerry, if you are reading this, please know that me and my carry-on full of tiny taster spoons are SO ready to become a “whirled” traveler.
