Doritos, much like Lowe’s, never stops improving. They have given us flavor after flavor (including, for better or worse, Fiery Mango), format after format (lookin’ at you, Dinamita and also those weird Dinamita Stick things), and yet here we are, with news of yet more new Doritos offerings hitting shelves. Well, one Stranger Things-themed offering is hitting shelves, and two Doritos flavors are returning.
Okay, so what new Doritos are we talking about here? Are they EGGO DORITOS?! IF THEY’RE EGGO DORITOS, YOU LEGALLY HAVE TO TELL ME!
Okay, calm down, my guy. First of all, no, Eggo Waffle Doritos are not on the menu (but @Doritos take note…we don’t not want that). The new Doritos are, in fact, mini Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos in a purple Pringles lookin’ canister that, wait for it, GLOWS IN THE FRIGGIN’ DARK. The Sporked team is on the record as Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos fanatics, and if the small format makes them even more snackable, we’re into it!
As for returning flavors, we’ve got Doritos Jumpin’ Jack Cheese, a flavor that was around in the ’90s, got discontinued, and then appears to have been brought back every few years since the 2010s. Now, it’s back as a Dollar General exclusive. So if you’ve been craving these bad boys but didn’t know where to find them, you now know where to look. And for those who haven’t tried them, the online reviews are mixed. Some say they taste like a cross between Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese Doritos, others say they’re reminiscent of a more subtle nacho cheese, and others still say Jumpin’ Jack Doritos are cheesy with a very slight kick of heat on the finish, sort of like pepper jack. Basically, we need to get our hands on these and find out for ourselves what these bad boys actually taste like, because no one on the internet can agree.
The other returning item is Doritos Ultimate Cheddar. What’s the difference between “Ultimate Cheddar” and the Nacho Cheese Doritos we know and love? Well, according to online reviews, these have more of a “Cheeto-like” cheese flavor than Nacho Cheese Doritos, which sort of have their own thing going flavor-wise. People online have said these are a lot like the Nacho Cheese chips, except paler (more yellow than orange) and “slightly less zesty” tasting, so take that as you will. Plus, unlike the Jumpin’ Jack Cheese Doritos, these will be available at all stores that sell Doritos. So even if you don’t live in the general vicinity of a Dollar General, you can still give these ultimate cheesy guys an ultimate try (no I don’t know what makes the cheese on these “ultimate”…but if I trust anyone to deliver on that vague of a claim, somehow it is Doritos).
