New Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Promise Extra Heat but They’re Also Sweet?

If you’re feeling a little extra heat right now, that might be because there’s a new type of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos in town (plus, you know, it’s June). Available for a limited time only at select Walmart stores, this new Cheetos flavor sounds like it could be even hotter and flamin’er than the other Flamin’ Hot options. It’s called Flamin’ Hot Sweet Carolina Reaper—yes, that Carolina Reaper (the “world’s hottest chili pepper” that absolutely destroyed Rhett and Link). But don’t be afraid, because according to reviews, these are more sweet than hot.

These exclusive and mysterious new Cheetos are difficult to obtain, so all we really know about them is based on the description on the packaging, which reads: “Sweet Meets Heat.” I turned to product reviews to find out what these puppies (er, kitties?) actually taste like, and so far, reviews are mixed. One person said the new Cheetos were spicy enough to make them cough, but also quite sweet, and they liked the balance. A few people thought they were way too sweet and not spicy enough. If this is true, “sweet met heat but it didn’t work out” would be a more accurate product description. I guess we’ll just have to find out for ourselves.

If these new Cheetos are anything like their spicy predecessors, Flamin’ Hot, Flamin’ Hot Limón, Cheddar Jalapeño, Xxtra Hot Cheetos, and Chester’s Hot Fries (my personal fave), then they can’t be that bad. And if this sweet/hot combo tastes anything like a classic Thai sweet chili sauce, they may even edge out Chester’s as my personal favorite Cheeto-made Flamin’ Hot snack. Stay tuned!

  • Had no idea these were rare, saw a bunch at Wal-Mart a week or two ago, but I don’t like Flamin’ Hot in general (except as a ludicrously fluorescent mac and cheese), so I passed.
