I never thought I would eat so many frozen meals. But it’s my job. So here I am, keeping tabs on new and exciting frozen meals hitting freezer aisles in grocery stores across the country. If you want to munch along with me and my microwave, here are the seven frozen meals (and frozen meal-ish things) I can’t wait to nuke and nosh.

Trader Joe’s Breakfast Bowl

We’ve tried a lot of frozen breakfast bowls and most of them are real stinkers. I have high hopes for this one from Trader Joe’s, though. You get scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese, pork sausage crumbles, and bacon bits. It’s basic, for sure, but that’s what you want for breakfast. Nothing fancy. Nothing crazy. Just eggs, potatoes, meat. Yum.

New Kroger Private Selection Frozen Meals

Kroger is coming for Trader Joe’s internationally-inspired frozen meals with 17 new meals. I’m particularly looking forward to trying the Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice, the Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina, and the Beef Bulgogi. We’ll be reviewing these for the site, so keep an eye out.

Sea Cuisine Guinness Battered Shrimp and Battered Fish Strips

We’re fans of Sea Cuisine’s frozen fish fillets and I am a Guinness devotee (even though I don’t necessarily think it’s the best stout), so this Guinness x Sea Cuisine partnership seems made for me. There are two items: the Battered Shrimp and Fish Strips (Alaskan pollack), which are both coated with a Guinness-based batter.

Jose Ole Birria Beef Taquitos

Jose Ole makes some of the best frozen taquitos, so there’s no reason to believe these new birria-stuffed taquitos will be anything but delicious. They’re filled with braised beef seasoned with “birria spices.” The only thing that’s missing is some jus for dipping.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
