Chocolate and peanut butter? We don’t need to tell you how we feel about it – you probably already know that we love it. Pretty much everyone does (well, unless you hate or can’t eat chocolate, or peanut butter, or both), and food companies know it. Hence, the never-ending stream of products that combine the two, from Rice Krispies Treats to Uncrustables, to a peanut butter and chocolate spread from Jif, which we sort of weirdly didn’t like that much. Hey, chocolate and peanut butter may go well together, but it has to be done right.

Well, hopefully, Jif will be delivering a corrective with its latest product. It’s just about to release a brand-new version of its Peanut Butter and Chocolate Spread, and this time? It’s got some crunch. Here’s what you need to know.
Jif Crunchy Peanut Butter & Chocolate Flavored Spread
Jif’s new spread is a bit of a game-changer on the textural front: For the first time, it contains roasted peanut chunks, giving each mouthful a burst of crunch and saltiness. This, it seems, will bring the spread closer once again to its peanut butter origins. It’s the kind of thing that you can see being daubed onto sandwiches and crackers (yes, we have our peanut butter and chocolate spread on crackers, and what of it?) forevermore, just so long as it gets the balance right. It feels like it’ll kinda be like a nutty chocolate bar in slightly smoother form, which we’re into.
The inclusion of roasted peanuts also takes Jif’s new spread further away from Nutella, giving it its own identity. Jif also has one eye on nutrition here, insofar as you can have an eye on nutrition for a product made largely from chocolate: Its Crunchy Peanut Butter & Chocolate Spread will contain 50% less sugar than Nutella. Interestingly, Nutella is ploughing ahead this year with its own peanut-flavored spread, marking its first major new product in decades. These brands are just meeting in the middle here!
When Will Jif’s New Spread Be Available?
It will be available in May, my friends. While we’re not sure exactly when it’ll be out in May, we do know that it’ll be arriving in stores in 15-ounce jars and hitting a smaller selection of retailers before going wider. But, y’know, it’s Jif, so that small selection of retailers will probably contain a few of the major names. This spread isn’t about to hide.
Jif’s move to introduce another choco-peanut butter product is the latest in its gradual push into the chocolate market. So far this year, we’ve seen it release peanut butter-filled chocolate treats for Easter, which might just be giving Reese’s a run for its money. Methinks it won’t be stopping any time soon.
