Instant ramen? We love it. Of course we love it – everyone loves it. And what we really, really love are instant ramen flavors that push the boat out. Totino’s pizza ramen? We’re sold. Chicken wing Cup Noodles? Give us a 10-pack right this second. Peanut butter ramen? Yeah, we’re on board with—wait, what?

Yes. That’s the latest noodle product that our shelves have been graced with, courtesy of Jif. Hot on the heels of its game-changing peanut butter and chocolate spread comes its Peanut Butter Stir-Fry Style Noodles, packs of which have recently started appearing in stores. It’s safe to say that we’re obsessed. Here’s what we know.
Instant peanut butter noodles?
Yep. Peanut butter noodles. Jif’s Peanut Butter Stir-Fry Style Noodles began making the rounds with food bloggers and reviewers last month while quietly appearing in stores, and now they’re widespread enough to reach our ears here at Sporked. This new ramen can be found at Dollar Tree for about a buck fifty, and we’re sure it’s started poking its head out at other stores, too.
It’s worth noting that these peanut butter noodles don’t actually have peanut butter in them. Instead, Jif packs every cup with a peanut butter-flavored seasoning sachet, so as to avoid any issues around shelf stability and oxidation. To cook them, it’s a matter of microwaving them for three minutes with some water, before going to town.
Okay…and are they any good?
We’re very pleased to report that so far, people seem to be getting on board with these noodles. In one review from The Ramen Rater (who, we hasten to add, has reviewed over 5,000 different instant noodle products in over 20 years – so we can reliably trust his opinion), he noted that “It’s really good – and it does have a nice strong peanut butter flavor, however it’s not so overbearing that it’s boorish. Really impressed.” The Ramen Rater subsequently gave it a five-out-of-five rating. Full marks, baby.
It’s also worth pointing out that while it is a little left-field for Jif to be making a noodle product, the concept of combining peanut butter and ramen really isn’t that unusual. As (again) The Ramen Rater stated in his unboxing video of the noodles, peanut sauces are common in certain cuisines (although, we should note that noodles with peanut-based sauce aren’t especially common or authentic in Thai cuisine, as is commonly assumed, but it can definitely show up in Westernized takes on dishes like Pad Thai), and the general flavor profile of peanut butter goes well with noodles and its accompaniments. So, we’re tentatively excited about trying this one. If you’ve spotted it near you, let us know what you think in the comments.
