Another day, another new Pringles flavor. Seriously, Pringles drops new releases more often than Sabrina Carpenter! (Bear with me while I work on my tight five connecting Pringles to pop stars.) Anyway, we got our hands on a new Pringles flavor: Pringles 7-Layer Dip. No, it’s not actually a dip (although I am totally into that idea). These are Pringles “crisps” flavored to taste like 7-layer dip.
So, do these new Pringles taste like seven separate ingredients? Read on to find out.
There’s no true standard when it comes to what exactly goes into a 7-layer dip, but here’s what appears to be on the can: sour cream, beans, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, black olives, and some little green bits that could be chunks of green pepper but could also be lettuce or cilantro, I guess.
Pros: These new Pringles are really good salsa verde Pringles. I know that’s not what they’re advertised as, but that’s what they are. They taste like cilantro and tomatillo, with a hint of tangy sour cream. There’s a hint of heat on the finish, but they’re generally pretty mild chips. Personally, I like them a lot. They’re going to stay with me on my desk as my tasty desk snack.
Cons: They do not taste like 7-layer dip. There’s really no bean flavor and certainly no guacamole flavor. It was a bold attempt—and I commend Pringles for taking a big swing. But if you’re hoping for true 7-layer dip flavor, you’re going to be disappointed. And don’t even try to dip one of these new Pringles into a 7-layer dip to make up for that lack of verisimilitude. Pringles are notoriously the weakest of all the chips.
Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients.
Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it.
What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now).
Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test!
Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
