New Pringles flavors are coming at us faster than we can review them. We’ve got our eyes peeled for the upcoming 7-Layer Dip, Loaded Potato Skins, and Beer Can Chicken Pringles. But while we wait (camped outside of our local big box store, just biding our time until that Pringles truck pulls up), we have yet another new Pringles flavor in our hands already: Pringles Spicy Loaded Nachos.

Okay, so it isn’t brand new—but it’s a returning flavor that we haven’t weighed in on before. Exclusive to Kroger-owned stores, this new (ish) Pringles flavor promises a lot. The purple can features jalapeno slices front and center, along with a platter of nachos with melted cheese, tomatoes, ground beef (or, at least, some sort of brown), and a big ol’ dollop of sour cream. Does it live up to the design? Should it have returned? Or stayed in the Pringles vault? Read on for our full review.

Pringles Spicy Loaded Nachos

New Pringles Flavor!

Pringles Spicy Loaded Nachos

Pros: The jalapenos are correctly presented on the can, because these Pringles are truly spicy. And they do taste a bit like jalapenos—you get some of that fruity, grassy pepper flavor. They are also cheesy, though the cheese flavor is much closer to the nacho cheese you get in movie theater nachos, rather than a platter of nachos you get from a restaurant. And, like most Pringles, they’re oddly addictive. Even though these are definitely not my favorite Pringles flavor, I could take down a whole can, no prob.

Cons: They’re so, so, so salty. Pringles are a salty chip brand—but these are mouth-dryingly salty. And they don’t deliver on the full nacho experience the can promises. I wanted a Wonka-like flavor explosion of sour cream and meat and salsa and cheese. Instead, it’s pretty much just a cheesy jalapeno chip. I’ve had some pretty convincing Pringles before (like the very odd but very complex Minecraft Suspicious Stew Pringles), so I know what they’re capable of. They dropped the ball on this one. If it leaves and comes back again, I expect a full reformulation.
