The New AMC Popcorn Bucket Is Basically Shrek’s Toilet

If you’re looking for someone who isn’t entertained by novelty-shaped food items and receptacles, then I’m not the person that you should be seeking out. Because I love them. Yes, they can be silly and gimmicky, and they may not be all they’re cracked up to be (check out Walmart’s exclusive Mario Galaxy box for that one), but what can I say? I like to have fun.

That’s why I’ve really been enjoying what AMC’s been doing with its popcorn buckets lately. We recently reported on The Devil Wears Prada 2 popcorn bucket, which is shaped like a handbag, and now we’ve got another new one. And it’s Shrek’s toilet. Yep. Here’s the deal.

What’s the new Shrek popcorn bucket?

AMC’s new Shrek-themed popcorn bucket, which is dubbed “The Outhouse Popcorn Collectible,” was announced via its Instagram. It’s being released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original film in everyone’s favorite ogre-led franchise, a fact that’s made me feel astonishingly old. 

As for the popcorn bucket itself, it’s shaped just like Shrek’s outhouse, which is seen in the opening minutes of the first film. It’s got an opening at the front and at the top, so your popcorn doesn’t spill out onto your lap as you munch away. It also comes with a detachable Shrek figurine – oh, and you get a large portion of popcorn thrown in for good measure. 

Importantly, this popcorn bucket is available with a ticket to a screening of Shrek, which will be shown at AMC Theaters on May 1. So, it’s strictly limited-edition, and you can only get it while stocks last. Don’t miss out: Get your tickets here. 

What are people saying about this new Shrek bucket?

The reveal of this popcorn bucket caused a stir in AMC’s comment section, with said stir being that people love this idea. “I pretty strictly don’t buy trendy consumer products, but I’d pass along this to my family for generations to come,” said one comment. Given that the kids who grew up with Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona are now firmly in their adulthood, and prone to fits of nostalgia (like me), we can see why this one has struck such a chord. 

Elsewhere, AMC has been having a lot of fun with its limited-time items this year. The theater chain has released a fair few special drinks in conjunction with its biggest movies, including a Devilish Lime Cherry Chic Diet Coke flavor that’s dropped to celebrate everyone’s favorite fashion-focused film. On the popcorn side, it was recently found teasing a new mystery flavor, which turned out to be Movie Nacho, and which is available right now at Kroger. You know what? I called that one, and I’m proud of myself.
