Doritos just dropped a brand new flavor for the summer—okay, brand new to us, at least. Canada got first dibs on it back in January, but it’s finally crossed the border to make its U.S. debut… and it’s even been spotted at one (albeit random) store already. Here’s the deets.

The new flavor: Doritos Ultimate Garlic Parm. Not just regular Garlic Parm. No, no. Ultimate Garlic Parm.
What does that mean? It’s unclear, but to me it’s giving “man drives big truck to overcompensate for other lackluster areas of his life.” Not that this is the first time Doritos put “Ultimate” in front of a flavor. Remember Doritos Ultimate Cheddar, which also came in an XXL version? Hmm….
Sorry, I’m just being annoying for the sake of being annoying. It’s one of my better qualities. Really, I have no problem with the name. I do have a problem with this flavor only being spotted at Sam’s Club right now, of all places. Who’s going to Sam’s Club to buy these in bulk?
We should, according to rumors online, see them hit other stores in the coming weeks. So be ready. Maybe buy some Trader Joe’s garlic spread to dip them in if you really long for the “Ultimate” garlic experience. (And a disposable toothbrush, if you’re snacking on these outside the comfort of your own home.)
Okay, what do we think? Will these taste good?
I’m cautiously neutral about these new Doritos. I think they will be fine, but not very memorable, and that is based on:
- Redditors in Canada who have said they aren’t bad, but they aren’t great. (Admittedly, they could have altered the recipe a little for this American release.)
- Unless we’re talking about Trader Joe’s Garlic Butter Irish Potato Chips, aka the best chips on planet earth, garlic chips are usually pretty “meh.”
- Garlic, parm, and corn tortilla chips to me feel like a flavor combo that just might not work as well as classic potato chips.
I’m not totally seeing the vision yet, but I’d love to be wrong. Obviously, we’re going to try them for ourselves ASAP, so stay tuned for that official review! Okay, see ya!
