Oatly And Tous Les Jours Are Launching A Gochujang Latte

Just when you think you’ve seen it all. Oatly’s coming in to set a new bar. Forget mochas. Forget your little almond lattes. Oatly has teamed up with Korean-American artist and producer Yaeji to make a Gochujang Latte. Yes, they’ve somehow turned out a creation that combines both espresso and is loaded up with notes of the Korean sauce made from fermented chili paste. I guess we’ll be getting hits of sweet and spicy in this one.

Cafe Yaeji

To cover all the news, we do have to take a step back. Oatly and Yaeji are actually first launching Cafe Yaeji. It’s a collaboration that brings together music, art, and coffee culture through the Korean American DJ & producer’s creative lens. At the center of Cafe Yaeji is where the Oatly gochujang latte will be featured.

New York City Gets It First

Of course. It’s either Los Angeles or New York City and this time, New York gets to experience it all first. Yaeji crafted the latte and is debuting it at an immersive New York City pop-up. Eventually after the pop-up, the latte will thankfully make its way into Tous Les Jours locations nationwide. Well by nationwide they really mean the Northeastern part of the United States.

Savory, Sweet, And Spicy Meet Up

Yaeji served as the creative force behind the latte and the experience surrounding it. Yaeji transformed gochujang, the savory, sweet, and spicy fermented chili staple in Korean cuisine, into an unexpected drink.

The iced latte combines espresso, Oatly Barista Edition, a gochujang-vanilla base, and salted vanilla cold foam that’s finished with gochugaru for a sweet, savory, creamy and subtly spicy flavor. The latte may be iced but layered with warm, complex flavors. Oatly claims it’s the ideal latte for transitioning from summer sipping into fall.

Lower East Side Pop-Up

You’ll specifically be able to find Cafe Yaeji popping up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on September 19th and the 20th. It’ll be inspired by Korean dabangs, historically a social and cultural gathering place for artists, writers, and music lovers. Of course, it has to have a bit of a twist as it gets reimagined through Yaeji’s eyes.

For those outside of New York City, the Oatly Iced Gochujang Latte will be available at Tous Les Jours locations across the nation beginning September 21st through October 31st. That way, fans across the country will get a chance to try Yaeji and Oatly’s one-of-a-kind drink for themselves!
