Are Reese’s and Oreo Teaming Up? Rumors Are Flying!

Rumor has it there’s something big coming from two power brands from the sweets aisle. You see, Reese’s and Oreo recently started following each other on Instagram. Is this a harbinger of earth-shattering snack news to come? Is this a preview of Oreo’s parent company Mondelez buying The Hershey Company? The facts are few but the speculation is wide and wild; let’s get into it.

Is a social media follow that big a deal?

From Reese’s? Not really. Reese’s follows nearly 50 accounts on Instagram, ranging from both famous Reeses (Angel and Witherspoon) and Ryan Reynolds, to Dunkin’ and Carl’s Jr. Maybe Reese’s is just friendly.

Oreo, on the other hand, is very much not “just friendly.” They don’t even follow previous collaborators Lady Gaga or Post Malone! As of today, Oreo follows a whopping eight accounts: Selena Gomez (and her official fan club page), an Oreo superfan named Danielle, Ritz Crackers, Chips Ahoy, Milk, the LGBTQ+ non-profit organization PFLAG (hell yeah, Oreo), and now…Reese’s. Oreo is exclusively following the girls, the gays, and foods they’ve worked with before. With Reese’s now joining that roster.

Have Reese’s and Oreo ever worked together before?

Oreo did release a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup cookie over ten years ago. It’s been a while since these two companies have linked up in any way, but a successful previous collaboration does lend more credence to the idea that we’ll see another collaboration in the future.

What could a OReese’sOs collaboration look like?

The easy answer is to bring back the Reese’s Peanut Butter Oreos, but this could go in the other direction. Could we see an Oreo creme-filled Reese’s Cup? Could we see a Reese’s Jumbo Cup stuffed with an entire Oreo? Could this be a giant fake-out designed to point us towards a Reese’s Puffs/Oreo Puffs cereal collaboration? 

Is there any actual evidence the companies are actually working together?
