Okay, so imagine you’re 17 again (traumatic, I know). You got a crummy job washing dishes or bagging groceries so you and your friends could pool your money and rent the absolute sickest limo possible to take to prom. And then it happens. One of your classmates steals the show on the big night by pulling up in front of the school in a 27-foot-long hot dog on wheels. The indignity!
This year, bologna purveyor Oscar Mayer is loaning out Wienermobiles for prom night. And those three lucky contest winners (more on that in a sec) don’t have to ride alone; Oscar Mayer has said that the Wienermobile fits “one absolute legend plus three of their friends.” I bet the rest of the school will spend the whole night trying to ketchup to the hot dogs riding in that fantastical frankfurter with all the relish they can mustard (hey, I’m on a roll). But they won’t ketchup, because ain’t nothing more aerodynamic than an Oscar Mayer wiener. That’s just science.
Unfortunately, the window to enter the contest closed on May 3, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to keep following this epic saga. To win, high school students who are at least 17 years old had to make videos (a minute long, max) explaining why they deserve to ride to prom in the Wienermobile and laying out the details of where and when their prom will take place. Then they had to post it to Instagram or TikTok with the hashtags #contest and #OscarTakeMeToProm. Now that entries are closed, we wait while all of the videos are reviewed by an independent panel of judges from now until May 6. The videos will be judged based on their “‘creativity and originality,’ and by how well each video ‘fits within the Oscar Mayer brand theme’ and is ‘a fun expression of the challenge.’”
Call me Glizzy McGuire because, if I was still in high school, I definitely would’ve entered this contest. If you are a fellow adult feeling the same way, I have some good news for you: You can request to have the Wienermobile show up to a special event, which it seems people are doing for wedding proposals. So, if you didn’t get a chance to throw your hat in the wiener ring this time, maybe throw a ring on your significant other and hail a Wienermobile for the occasion.
